If you found £20 in a cash machine........

If some of these machines take the money back in after a short while and credit the account (im assuming this after reading several posts in here, before this i'd never heard of a machine doing it), then is it possible to say draw a 20 note out, let it sit there, then place a 10 note on top and just as it's about to pull the money back in swipe the 20 leave the 10 and trick the machine into thinking it's just re-credited your account with £20?

Don't think this will work as the machine knows when it's pulled out even though you say put another on top. Try it.

Theft by finding. So you're breaking the law if you take it. Simples

I've left cash in a cash machine before -_- I was very hungover. Went back and was handed it by a man standing at the machine.

Funny thing was it was folded neatly in half, Cash machines fold money now! Awesome

So you don't pick money up from the floor when you find it?

Cash hanging out of a cash machine is different. It will return inside, or if its on the outside of a bank or shop. The money should be handed in.

Cash on the floor, if it was outside a shop, I would hand it in.

If it was a big amount I would hand it in.

If it was a small amount, with no obvious way of getting it back to the owner. I would pocket it. Which is theft, and I'm aware of that.

If I saw the person leave it and knew who it was I would give them a shout and give it back to them.

If there wasn't anyone around, I would take it.

Though I don't think machines just sit there with money hanging out, it takes it back after a minute or so doesn't it.

I'm not a thief so there's your answer. Besides you would be caught on the cctv.

It's no surprise the country is in the state it is when so many people in this thread would take what is not theirs, just the same as the benefit scoungers that steal from the public as a whole.

I also have a feeling half the people in this thread are telling porkies but not really bothered over a forum.

Considering I recently returned £500 of goods that came into my possession which I had not paid for, then I'd like to think I've demonstrated some level of integrity and am not "telling porkies"...

Oh please

20 pounds sticking out of a cash machine in no way adds to the state of this country, a pensioner for example would maybe take the 20 quid, its not like no one is getting robbed or murdered for it.

That is a total over exaggeration on your part.

And yet the pensioner would still be a thief

People should be punished for their mistakes. This way they won't make the same mistake twice.

It's one more scumbag criminal who will cost the public money to prosecute, so yes it does.

So, has anyone actually answered yet about what they'd do if they needed to use the cash machine but refuse to take the £20 sticking out? I seriously doubt you'd all stand there waiting.
