Old games that look worse than you remembered

Got my Hdd for my 360 to play halo 1, only played a bit in coop at friends before.

Wow its bad, the jaggies are so apparent on the 46" gt30 only sit about 3 to 4 feet away, and definitely looks miles worse! What was xbox res?

Even generals on pc looks worse, playing on 2560 at some weird 1896 red and not wide. Everything looks so square

Edit. gonna be hard to finish but have to for the story!

I quite like the original HL still, even with stock textures. It looks awful, but still has all the charm that is lacking from modern FPS games.

The plot and gameplay are rock solid, all the eye candy in the world cant make up for a lack of those...

Bit surprised to see Unreal mentioned as I think it has aged reasonably well.

This. Unreal played at 1080 with AF and AA ramped up it looks well. The character models leave a little to be desired but the environments and lighting are still nice enough, and far more expansive and imaginative than 99.9% of the tripe we have recently

Installing it now in fact

all games look worse than you remember, rose tinted glasses syndrome :)

doesn't mean they play any less fun however on the odd occasion it completely ruins a game for you. :(

I spent so long getting that texture compression working on my Voodoo 3 :p

Sometimes it made me think Far Cry was made for CRT's. The game looks so washed out compared to most games and the draw distance is shockingly terrible. Nothing starts rendering until you're in a specific area.

I think it was about three years ago that I completed Far Cry. If it wasn't for my desire to do it justice by finally seeing it through, I don't think I would have bothered. Iirc, it looked quite dated even then imo. Freaky a.i. at times, though. :)

Generally for me it seems to be FPS games that always feel super old.

I've been playing some old time games recently - Theme Hospital, Civilization 1, RC Tycoon, Desperados, Commander Keen and barely notice the age of the game or the graphics. However there seems to be little replay value in the old FPS games as they just feel tired (maybe because the modern FPS games are exactly the same but with better graphics and controls, but older strategy games still have something unique to offer?)

Some good points there.

Anything 3D really. Things like Transport Tycoon and Theme Hospital don't look so bad as everything was drawn pretty well in the first place. I think Diablo 2 still looks great.

I love playing old games at low resolutions and then I look at my phone and it seems mega high res :D
