No more btjunkie :-(

Even if NetFlix only supplies SD, you can still buy or rent BluRay.

It's not just about quality. Pirates want:

1) best quality
2) to keep the product forever (not a rental)
3) prices comparable to a basic no-frills rental service (ie, cost of usenet sub)
4) everything on demand immediately on release + instant delivery

Today, providers can supply some of those depending on which service you're talking about. Do you think you could make a viable business model by checking all of those boxes?

I think its more:

1) DVD quality (no more no less) more = too much HDD Space/download times and less = ...less :)
2) option to keep forever OR delete (maybe it was a bad movie or it was good but no interest to watch again) no feeling of wasted money by deleting it
3) no unskippable ad's at start, no FBI warnings or other rubbish
4) everything on demand immediately on release + instant delivery

:)

Why do you think people pay for newsgroups? They obviously feel it is worth the premium and hence pay the money for the service.

There does seem to be evidence that some people would pay for a service that ticked the boxes.

I guess the disagreement is simple. I boils down to whether you can get what you want when you want it. For some, not being able to have what they want is all the justification they need to break the law. For others, it's not conscionable.

There are probably those who consider themselves to be digital revolutionaries, railing against the greedy media empires, but I suspect most of us are more internally honest ;)

I can see newsgroups being targetted eventually.

This was a voluntary shutdown, they weren't forced, everybody is just crapping their pants.

This is why i'm not willing to buy a years subscription to supernews, i'm just going to stick to pay monthly.

"2005 - 2012
This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we've decided to voluntarily shut down. We've been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it's time to move on. It's been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best!"

wow, things feel like they are really changing on the net these days, times like this I'm glad I've got netflix, came just in time it seems.

what the hell is btjunkie?? who gives a ****

Just a heads up, the unblock us website is very good.

Loads more content on netflix and films from 2010, not 1990.

South Park season 1-14, the True grit remake etc.

That is reason why i dont even have a TV. I am Polish guy and UKs television is even worse then polish one !!!
All i see in tv is adds and crappy tv shows. I dont pay TV licence for over 7 years and 2-3 months ago some inspector came over to have a look if i got TV set (and I dont) Explained to him that i dont want to watch stuff in television cos it sucks.
What i want to say is..... If I would Pay TV licence and my money would be given to make those piece of **** shows like : I got talent/***** on ice and all other crap i would feel bad about myself.
I do watch Top Gear. But i got their specials on dvds. Best thig is that i dont even got a dvd drive :D. I would be happy to pay 50f in Top Gears bank account to support that program i like.
I do have around 30 movies on dvds that I rl like. And i go to cinema to see good movies. But as years pass. Less and Less movies are worth my time not to mention money. 90% of movies suck balls nowadays . I rather watch Predator again.

But by now i got downloading in blood..... Im using Pirated soft since my commodore 64. Good times of copying games on tape recorders heh.

call me when newsgroups are:

1. free
2. as easy to use as clicking a .torrent file
3. as widely used as bittorrent is

This is what I find funny about the NZB Elitists. Other than the constant speed, there really is NO benefit over Torrents.

I personally use both, Anything i cant find on 1, I do a search on the other. And vice versa.

Anyone that prefers 1 over the other fine. But when they mock one or the other, or laugh at people for using 1 or the other. I think they lost sight of what they are trying to accomplish.

Downloading...stuff?

I would happily pay £30, £40, £50 a month for unlimited ondemand access to whatever television show I wanted to watch, whenever I wanted to watch it.

This service does not appear to exist.

Exactly, if I could pay xx and receive a service the same as NZB, FTPs provide me I would happily.

But there isn't such a service, the illegal option is easy, convent, low cost, high quality, fast. The other options we have are what Netflix?

Crap PQ, streaming only, no up-to-date TV shows.

LoveFilm, not every film available, waiting 2-3 days for your disc to arrive potentially broke.

SkyHD+ again PQ is not as good, not available when you want it, no up to date US shows (albeit getting much much better).

Illegal downloads offers the consumer EVERYTHING they want.

Someone needs to grab this market and sort it out.

Netflix US via a proxy.

I was dubious but it really has everything i want.

This is against the licensing terms so fundamentally pointless, surely this is like paying to torrent stuff?

I think of it more like buying a US DVD player and buying Region 1 disks. Technically not "allowed" because you're not in the "designated region", but still legal by all means.

That and, you know, the small fact that it's SSL encrypted and you don't upload anything to anyone.

big whup. You still use it for the same end result right? Again elitists are funny.

FYI, I use both. I just dont see why you find it funny that others use torrents, Its wierd

Again, Do they no accomplish getting the file?

Based in Sweden, so they're subject to different laws and prosecution.

They also don't host a single torrent anymore...only magnet links which somehow is a legal loophole. It also means the whole pirate bay site can be hosted on a pen drive.

The trouble is a legit alternative will have to be more expensive as not only will it need to cover the same costs as the illegal services it will have to pay money to the rights holders and as a legal entity will inevitably have higher running costs. At this point some of the Newsgroups user would shift to the legal service but the rest will play the same trump card they have used all along 'at a reasonable cost' which seems to be something they think they should determine or they will just move the goal posts again as there will be some new super HD format or playback device available.

I've been listening to the same excuses from the same people since the Napster days and given that music is now cheaply and conveniently available the level of piracy still indicates that people haven't moved to legit services.

The current generation are growing up in a world where digital content is viewed very differently to all other consumer products and the sense of entitelment they have developed due to the lack of fear of prosecution is frightening and will take years to reverse even if suitable methods and legislation to control piracy are introduced.
