david cameron ''children should stand up''

School definitely, at home is a little excessive, however i fully support these ideas, kids seriously need to learn respect and discipline these days, something sorely lacking, it would certainly be a good starting block.

One of my teachers is really strict, but he understands a laugh
We respect him very much and he respects us.

Some teachers don't even get the school rules.
There is something called the one way system(in my school)
Then we went out of the 'out door'
and he said why are you going out of the indoor and gave me and my
friend a detention

Deal with it. Life will kick you a lot harder when you grow up.

So you disrespect people until they prove otherwise? I think you will find that respect should be given until it is not deserved rather than the other way around. The default position should be that the individual deserves to be respected unless they show that they do not.

In any case, it is simply polite and shows respect to their position, which they do in fact deserve by default.

And how do teachers get the respect of children if the children are not shown what respect is?

I want to know where it is laid out where students must respect teachers. What makes these teachers more worthy of respect than other professions? And I am sure the students who do this at school dont do it at home.

If a student respects a teacher he will not mess around in class,
which is not the case with my English teacher.
All my other classes are fine and go along fine
But the English class is always everyone shouting and talking
This is because the teacher disrespects some people and doesent get any respect from the students

You're missing the point. You respect others first and foremost, which in turn results in respect for yourself from others (hopefully).

Can you not see the implications of having an attitude where by default you show no respect?

Their position deserves respect, in fact everyone you meet deserves respect unless there is good reason not to give it to them.

Do not be surprised if you are given no respect yourself if you have that kind of attitude to others.

Good manners cost nothing and are the grease that makes society run smoothly, the sooner you learn that the easier and better you will find life is......do not be surprised if you do not treat others with respect that they do not respond to you favourably.

Actually you are missing the point and not answering my questions.

Where does it say students must show this level of respect only to teachers and not other professions?

Why must they stand up when the teacher enters the room? Isn't listening and doing the work not enough?

Respect is earned, not given. Addressing them by their surname is enough.
I disagree, i think this is a ****** attitude to have, to me this says, people like this act like they are above everyone else and feel people should prove themselves to them.

respect should be given regardless, until said person has given reason to have lost respect.

Also when it comes to elders, they should be refered to as Sir or Ma'am until told otherwise, its just manners.

There is a difference between general respect and the sort of respect people are suggesting teachers and some other people should have.

For example, saying thank you, holding doors open etc is fine, but when you get to the point of "respect" being having to obey everything someone says and take their word as gospel then that is where it needs to be earned.

Unfortunately there are a lot of older people that break kids like **** and expect respect in return, that should not be the case...

What about elders respect to you? Or does it only go one way?
