Hi there

Well its no mystery but on 28/29th April Ivybridge CPU shall be available to buy, we already have 100's in stock being an Intel Platinum partner, so OcUK is ready to sell and our pricing shall be very competitive.

But the question is who is going to buy it? Yes its faster than Sandybridge and also overclocks well, but it does run hotter and requires the absolute best air coolers and it is more advisable to have a top-end watercooling setup to maximise the OC.

In our testing we've found on the best air coolers you can expect 4.50-4.80GHz stable and maybe 5.0GHz for benchmark but no stable, in general Sandybridge has the edge when overclocking on air and self contained H20 solutions. Though expect load temps in the region of 85-100c under extreme load circumstances.

On custom H20 solutions with dual/triple rads, powerful pumps and decent fans then OC is similar to Sandybridge, in the region of 4.70-5.00GHz stable and maybe a little over 5GHz, temps should remain sub 75c ideally with such solutions.

If however you have extreme cooling solution such as phase, the Ivybridge clocks better than Sandybridge in the 7-8Ghz range. :D

So question is, who shall be buying Ivybridge CPU or setup when the CPU's are available to order next weekend? Remember we have stock now so are prepared and ready to ship. :)

nope, for the minimal increases i'd get over my nice new shiny 2500K, nope lol
Maybe if a lottery win comes my way, but then i'd prolly go SB-E haha

I have Z77 motherboard, 16GB ram etc all sat in a case just waiting for a CPU.

I will wait for pricing and reviews before deciding whether to buy Ivy. I might be tempted by trying to pick up a Sandy second-hand if Ivy not as good in general.

I have a H100, which will limit OC potential.

I shall certainly be buying from OCUK if pricing is competitive, happy with service I've had from you guys on all the other stuff I've bought from you.

I think, on the balance of things I'm happy with the idea of Ivy, but the pricing has to be right.

I want to get ivy unless it is a lot more expensive than sandy, but I definitely want an asus z77 motherboard after watching the asus z77 motherboard roundup on motherboards.org :)

I'll be skipping IB entirely. Not worth changing from SB and the really high load temps put me off even more.

I'll also be skipping IB for myself as I cant see any need to upgrade form my 15 whcih sits all day long at 4.8ghz on good volts and temps.

Might look at it if someone needs a pc building though.

Interesting Gibbo, thanks.
got Q6700 from 2007
Always planned to get Ivy Bridge.
Last few weeks I've been turned off by reports, maybe wait another year
Will my H50 cool this so it can run over 5 gig?
