What film did you watch last night?

K-Pax was probably the 2nd Kevin Spacey movie I saw after The Usual Suspects so my expectations were already quite high and rightly so. It was an amazing movie and spawned a debate among friends on what we thought happened at the end.

I saw Battleship the other day. It was completely predictable yet completely entertaining and visually stunning at the same time and I enjoyed watching this probably a bit more than the latest Transformers offering as well. I liked the fact that for once you get to see the aliens too but I had a few questions that were burning in my mind like

If Planet G was just like Earth then why were the aliens afraid of sunlight? Surely their evolutionary path would have been similar to us as evidenced by their physical form and since their planet would have been in the habitable zone then their parent Star’s power would have been similar to our Sun too!

Also, it seemed odd that their suits could withstand thousands of shell rounds but the windows on the bridge of their ship could not withstand some sniper bullets?

50cal sniper rifles? i havent seen battleship though.

did you know there are some k-pax books continuing the story? :) kinda ends the debate but i did have the same conversation after it.

ah, that explains it then. i thought it was a bit bobbins for him

You know, Spielberg hasnt really made anything great of recent.

Off the top of my head, his last great movie was Jurassic Park and Minority Report. The rest of his movies since then have been pretty poor. Even War of the Worlds which should've been great was lacklustre.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - Loved the look and feel of it, perfectly made me feel like I was there at the heart of it. Gary Oldman captured the role of Smiley absolutely, and while I felt a bit lost at times with regards to who's who, it all came together nicely. 9/10 from me.

Think I'll have to buy the books!

I'm a big fan of Gary Oldman, I think he's a great actor but I found this film incredibly boring.

I Saw the Devil (2010)

Stunning South Korean crime drama/thriller.
Featuring lead actors Min-sik Choi (Oldboy) and Byung-hun Lee ( A Bittersweet Life (2005) another MUST see South Korean masterpiece)
One of the best if not the best films I've seen this year, highly recommended!

8/10

Contagion 7.5/10

Very enjoyable but it now has me slightly concerned about the cough and headache I have. I really wish I hadn't shaken hands with that chef the other day.

Just watched the social network 10/10 for me.

Amazing seeing something (dramatised) being born that is so influential on todays society.

Thought provoking.
