No IB Pre-Order? Sigh let us use our vouchers!!

Go check the prices on a few of the GPU's/CPU's/Motherboards that OCUk sell with the prices of competitors, just with free postage it makes OCUk undersell themselves....

I'm not sure where OCUK are underselling themselves when (with free postage) they're over £10 higher on the 2500k than it is elsewhere (with paid postage).

Some of their pricing is excellent, others not so much. They're not some altruistic company selling cheaper than everyone else, just a business after your sterling; same as any other.

OCUk Sell a lot of things below what they buy them for.

Can you identify which products they are selling at a loss?

I don't get why they would.

I mean, I know why Sony was selling PS3s at a loss, they make the money back through game sales iirc.

But OCUK? I can't see how they would benefit from selling at a loss.

Anyway, what are those products OCUK are selling at a loss?

I'm also surprised because OCUK is often more expensive than other etailers, notably two big ones beginning with A and E.

EDIT: Just read this reply:

'Yes they do, it's a business practice known as a loss leader. Selling products below the cost of acquiring them in order to stimulate the sale of other, more profitable products.'

Funny because that doesn't work with me, if it's cheaper from OCUK, I'll buy there. But how is that going to make me buy their other products which they price higher than other websites? It doesn't. I'll buy the other components where it is cheapest too.

I don't think anyone here knows which - and maybe its some of the daily deals. Why? Because certain items people are likely to buy more things with. e.g. cheap CPU => need a motherboard/RAM too

I guess OCUK do not want my money then.I knew this would happen once they gave out the facebook vouchers to clear SB stock.

It was timed nicely to run out on the 28th when IB is out the following morning.I know that i will simply go buy it elsewhere to spite OCUK as i feel sort of touchy about not getting to use the voucher on IB and being cut off by one day on purpose. So let us pre order the damm CPU if you want our money!

It is not as if OCUK are cheap or anything i still need MOBO+CPU as i was going to use the voucher for the Asus Z77 until i realised that the web price for today only was only matching other UK sites.Once it ended the price was roughly more expensive by £10 so really all the voucher did was make it cost the same as someone else yet you had to go sign to facebook to get that equal price.

Woop-de-do now you actually lost a sale instead of gaining one with a 10% discount!

Omfg really, how old are you? You sound about 10 in your post. Coming on here and moaning like a spoiled brat will solve nothing. It is what it is, live with it. Stop being someone who expects the world owes them everything in return for their existence.

Like bread and milk in supermarkets, loss on the sales BUT there placed in the back of the stores to attract people inside and usually buy other items they see.

Except on the internet the entire aspect out of buying something in the same physical surrounding that you're already in does. not. apply.

Unless you're real ****in lazy, coz who the hell can't take 10 seconds to look for the cheaper product on another website?

Ask dairy farmers how much they get for milk and then look at what you pay. Supermarkets don't lose money on milk.

So where's the fruit and veg forum?

It may be that sites have a special on something popular at a lower margin, (or make google show cheap prices and have no stock when you get there) in the hope that you'll fullfill the whole order there - maybe to get better total postage.
But nowhere is going to sell any quantity of stuff day in day out at a loss or close to it.
All the same it must be no fun being a DRAM manufacturer - unless you can invent a market for fancy spreaders or Ivy Bridge DRAM.

Sunday is really a strange day to put up Ivybridge to release ! Look like no companies won't put on their site "in stock now" until Monday morning. So, the rest of them will have their own ivybridge on Tuesday with delivery to their door.

But, I don't care really cos I ain't buying it. :)

Surely if they are allowed to launch on a Sunday they will be taking orders on the Sunday? Some places still have stores you can go into to buy a CPU if you wanted.

For people like myself, I have had a new PC just waiting for a CPU, I could do without having to wait extra days whilst I no doubt miss delivery and the like.

I really hope OCUK are competitive at launch...

If Intel release Ivy on Sunday, then OCUK had to open their business on sunday say 10am to 4pm for special "Ivy Day" but I don't think OCUK won't open it anyway. But who know ? Gibbo might let it one off Sunday 10am to 4pm if he want!

If it becomes available to order on sunday, no one need be there, the site can take orders 24/7. I doubt any courier would pick up orders on sunday so they'll be processed by humans on monday when they'll hopefully be dispatched so I can't see how that's any different from them going on sale on monday.

Something may be cheaper on another website, but it is often about brand loyalty. I generally only shop at OcUK due to awesome and helpful staff, amazing forums, great offers, fast and reliable delivery, and positive experiences all around. I can't be sure of these things for other retailers so I will only shop at what I believe to be the best component retailer in the UK.

It's for the same reasons people may prefer Coca Cola over Pepsi. Generally Coca Cola costs more than Pepsi but is a great product so people will buy it over Pepsi.

Yes, but brand loyalty is a different issue (but perhaps related) to loss leading that I'm sure works better in physical stores in a similar fashion to the milk example given above - I think there are better examples though.

Still not convinced ocuk is even a 'loss leader' seeing as they're often more expensive. However, they are also often the better option if what you're buying happens to be on offer. I also appreciate the free next day delivery, only one other etailer I trust does that, the big A.

Coca Cola tastes better too ;p
