Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th April - 2nd May 2012]

It's scary that City have built a midfield from nothing that is so much better than ours, and they haven't actually spent that much on those players.

Not much, not much? Milner, 20mil +, Barry was what £16mil or something, £18mil for De Jong, Toure 24mil, Silva £25mil , Nasri 25mil.

In what way is that not spending much? When you also consider Tevez and Balotelli tend to play wide you could call them wingers and add their cost in.

Cheap, not by any stretch of the imagination.

They haven't spent much on their midfield? Toure, De Jong and Barry cost a combined fee of over £50m.

Relative to the fees being talked about for some players at the moment, £24m apiece for Toure and Silva is very good business. We have enough mediocre players without signing De Jong and Barry though. :p

Barry gets a lot of **** but he's been very good for a while for City and was the best player on the pitch today in my opinion. He quietly goes about his business, keeps the ball well and rarely do you see him get overrun in midfield. And you could do a lot worse than De Jong too.

edit: Taggart just said the bust-up with Mancini was caused because Mancini was constantly in the 4th official's ear and shouting at the ref :o

I still think the Formation was right but just with a mixture of inexperience (Jones, Smalling) and players not good enough in midfield. Scholse and Giggs can boss it against mid table teams but when you come up against players who are every bit as technically proficient but more athletic then there was only ever going to be one outcome

Park, technically as proficient just less athletic, Carrick the same, lol, if you say so...........

Well Park doesn;t even need replacing, just taking out back and shooting. It's just 2 new midfielders with three from Carrick/Cleverley/Scholes/Pogba(if he stays) as backup. A new striker will only happen if Berbatov goes. Jones is not a finished product, that doesn't mean we'll be selling him.

To be honest I think thats being overly harsh on Park's usefulness, I both wouldn't waste the bullet and, if you put him in a man sized running wheel he could probably help save some power on the flood lights?

Why do we need De Jong when we have Michael Carrick?

LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Anyone got a GIF of Tevez running straight past him while Michael does his best impersonation of a lamppost?

I liked him at the Villa too to be honest. Does nothing spectacular just gets the job done most of the time.

The only problem was, he was pretty awful tonight, had a good chance to shoot when the ball came out from a corner IIRC, on his left, made a bad pass instead.

Likewise, its FAR to easy to take a game where nothing bad happens and just proclaim he did well. Best player on the pitch is truly laughable, one of his main jobs was getting in to help at left back and he both fluffed that multiple times, was pretty **** getting forward and when Yaya disappeared in the second half when shattered and Utd suddenly had a ridiculously easy time in central midfield.... it wasn't because Barry took up Yaya's slack, its because without Yaya really closing and working in midfield, City crumbled. If Barry was good, that wouldn't have happened.

When City were awful and were losing/dropping points all over the place, it was obvious where Barry wasn't doing his job well, when they win, its less obvious, this goes for most teams.
