Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th April - 2nd May 2012]

It's scary that City have built a midfield from nothing that is so much better than ours, and they haven't actually spent that much on those players.

As Fergie said, there's only 2 or 3 players out there that would improve our midfield.... at least he has a sense of humour.

The worrying thing is it;s only going to get harder to find them. What's easier, signing a big player when you've just won the CL/league and runners up CL/league or when you're being outclassed by your main rival and are a laughing stock in Europe?

Did anybody else find it funny how long Hart stayed down near the end of the game with agony on his face from that so called "foul", and then supposidly couldnt even take the goal kick.

Oh, and as for Quinn, i really hope he is never allowed near a commentators booth again, the guy was absolutely shocking.

Yeah, I'd look at the replay again, I think it was Smalling who caught and turned Hart's ankle, he wasn't faking it, it was quite nasty, and not at all on purpose.

Swansea are no push overs and Oniell has got Sunderland playing well, Newcastle are decent at home but City know how close they are, they cant trip up now surely, cant see QPR getting anything at Man City's ground?

Sunderland have got 12 points in their last 12 games, with 2 wins iirc, they've been playing woefully badly after their initial run of good performances after he took over. They've look pretty damn poor lately.

Few games ago Man United was 8 points clear, it was over, title was won but they fluffed it and now need a new team

:D

You say that as if no-one has been saying this before then? Fans and non fans have been saying it for at least two seasons. We've briefly papered over the cracks by bringing Scholes back and by being stronger in other areas (wing) but it's a problem that Fergie hasn't resolved for 2/3 years now.

The problem is that any midfielder that would improve United will immediately be on the radar of Chelsea, City, Real Madrid and Barcelona. Bar Barcelona, we can't compete financially with any of those teams. I think we ought to try to sign Modric, but inevitably we'll be outbid by one of the above teams.

A couple of players to replace Scholes/Giggs is not a new team, Cheets. Even you must realise that.

:D

Ah damn, why should such brilliance be deleted.

Well you are going to need a 4 new midfielders, seeing as everyone has slated Park and Carrick and Scholes/Giggs cant compete and Jones is awful and you need another world class striker!

Not like our team selection did him any favours, he'll be back and firing next weekend.

I still think the Formation was right but just with a mixture of inexperience (Jones, Smalling) and players not good enough in midfield. Scholse and Giggs can boss it against mid table teams but when you come up against players who are every bit as technically proficient but more athletic then there was only ever going to be one outcome

I refuse to believe there are only 7/8 good midfielders in the world. Barca/Madrid hardly need any more midfielders and even City could probably only get one more.

Well Park doesn;t even need replacing, just taking out back and shooting. It's just 2 new midfielders with three from Carrick/Cleverley/Scholes/Pogba(if he stays) as backup. A new striker will only happen if Berbatov goes. Jones is not a finished product, that doesn't mean we'll be selling him.

All of that is open to interpretation, but we do need some new players, and hopefully we'll get them.
