Heres a quick run at 48x, 1.4v. Any lower than 1.4v and it wasn't stable.

One of the cores was hitting 92c after only 2 minutes, and that was with my H100 set to maximum.

You've reached the voltage limit at 4.75Ghz, you'll prob need to get 4.8 with other settings than increased Vcore.

I'm moving from a Phenom II X2 555, and I was going to buy a Sandy and overclock it to a maximum of 4.8, and even that was a push, so surely an IB at 4.5/4.6 will be pretty much the exact same performance right? It doesnt bother me that the number is lower, or not as shiney to show off, I just want it to perform at the very least the same, and it sounds like an Ivy at 4.5/4.6 is the equivalent of a Sandy at 4.8/4.9 and I really dont remember seeing that many running Sandy at 4.9ghz, a few no doubt, but it doesnt sound like the norm at least

Because i was able to hit 4.9-5Ghz with the 2600K (which i've now sold!), and stupidly thought that IB would overclock more due to the smaller fabrication process.

My own fault for not reading into it more before ordering!

You know a 4.6Ghz OC on a IB is pretty much the same as a 4.9Ghz on a SB right..?

Yeah, that 400MHz difference in speed must really be affecting your CPU-bound apps...

Ive seen quite a lot of 4.8Ghz on 3570k's most people are getting mid 70 to low 80 temp wise. Think I even saw a 4.9Ghz earlier.

4.8Ghz on IB needs a lot of volts.
mid 70's 80's temps are not realistic unless the load is small.
Anything like Prime or worse still IBT would push temps well over 100


4.6Ghz is as far as you can realisticly push them if you want 24/7 stability and reasonable temps.
Anything above that is just for benching and is not viable for everyday use.

They will reach 4.6Ghz easy enough at 1.3v - 1.35v which is the max sensible vcore IMHO.

Looks like the 3770ks people are posting are needing higher vaults and running hotter than my 3570k. Is that because of hyper threading?

The temps ARE realistic if you don't mind. I've read every review possible pre release and a lot after release... Under load from Prime95 Stulids 4.6Ghz was mid 70s-low 80s... I know how many volts it requires for a 4.8Ghz on a IB as well thanks very much...

they are some high temps for stock volts and a H100 !

Honestly, it really amazes me why people are so upset with the chip and the fact that it doesn't clock quite as well as previous versions. For a first, clock for clock, ivybridge is a fair amount faster. So maybe 200-400Mhz lower on the same cooling. How much does this really affect day to day usage? My guess is very little? People seem to have been expecting miracles. In my mind it is far from a step backwards as people have been suggesting.
I think overclocking is more of a status thing that anything else. Who has the highest clock. Even though it is only a tiny amount faster than the next persons. Baffling

May spark a debate here......

Reasonably high, but running small FFTs for max heat and not many things you do on a PC stress it like this fake testing.
