Is the fee only taken *IF* the item is sold/bought? or it's taken regardless if no one wants it?

Seems a bit steep but we don't really know how in-demand some of the items will be...

I know i won't be buying any items with real money and i am sure many other people will be exactly the same. But if i can get make the money back that i paid for the game in the time that i play it. then that is a bonus. I don't think you can realy look at it as a way to make loads of cash and i think it is kind of designed that way. But i could be wrong, this is my first time playing a multilayer game with a real money based item market. I am sure some rich noobs will come on and want to spend loads of money to get a head in the game. If you can get good items fast enough you could get ahead of the market. One advantage to starting early i guess.

if i make the price of the game back in selling stuff on the AH il be happy enough.

if i get enough for a new gfx card next year then il be very happy :D

I'm quite looking forward to the crafting aspect, and achieving the stats you'd like. This shows how much content they're lining up for inferno:

All the unique and most of the rare crafts will occur at level 10 BS, inferno.

You know it says magic items available 13 for first level of normal. There has to be more than 13 magic items, is that percentage or what? is that per user. I saw more than 13 magic items in the open beta for example.

That doesn't sound too far off to me?

It's not even one of each piece of gear at the first level.

That's just for level 1 BS don't forget, did you not level it up?

I just hope they make items rare enough, as without any ladder resets the market's going to be saturated eventually.

Also I can't help but feel that way more people will be interested in selling than buying items. What motivation is there to get uber gear as fast as possible when the primary aim of the game is PVE? There's no PVP at all yet, and I can't see any other long term goal than earning your gear, other than achievement whoring.

You will need quite a lot of that gear to finish the actual game on inferno.
And there will be PVP, they just gonna add it a patch or two after release.

You're only charged a transaction fee if your item sells.

Normally yes, but the way they worded it seems iffy to me...hmmm guess we just got to wait and see :p

i hope it's not a "scam" as such though, having to list it for a fee would kill the AH in terms of real world money trades.

Apparently only on a few listings, if you go over the amount you start getting charged for listing items, of course it could all change when it's launched

here is the FAQ from Blizzard

Blizzard said:
How is the transaction fee determined?

A nominal fixed transaction fee will be deducted from the seller for each item listed in the auction house. This fee consists of a fixed charge to list the item, which is assessed whether or not the item is successfully sold, and an additional fixed charge that is assessed only if the item is sold.

Because the listing portion of the fee is charged even if the item doesn’t sell, it will be in the seller’s interest to list items he or she believes other players will be interested in, and to do so at a competitive price. Specific details related to the transaction fee for the currency-based auction house will vary by region and will be announced at a later date.

Please note that we plan to waive the listing portion of the fee for a limited number of transactions per account. In other words, for these transactions, the seller will only pay a transaction fee if the item is successfully sold, and that fee will not include the listing charge. We’ll have further details on this as well at a later date.

Quite right, I should have clarified.

According to the devs, you will get a few free listings per week. So for most people, they will only list their most valuable items, and avoid the fees unless they sell.

Yeah that is a little ambiguous. It could be mean you can list a certain number of items at once and additional items you get charged for or you could have a limited number of free placements and everything after that costs you.

I can obviously see the logic behind wanting to stop people listing useless junk for silly prices but once you start charging people it would put a lot of people off trading.

Edit: Ninja'd by something (hopefully) more accurate. Sounds good that way.

Just don't cash out your money to the battle.net account :) I wonder how many people will accidentally do this and then realise they can't use it anymore except for Blizzard products.

Am fairly sure they'll be hoping a lot of people do that, and Customer Services won't allow changes!
