***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

well the camera is improved? just because it has the same amount of megapixels doesn't mean its the same.. the sensor is completely different and has some new features :)

A new sensor? Sounds good. Where did you see that? Any info?

Is the NEXT one the one you're getting? :p
Because there are more coming this go around, as you've hinted!

I think you are reading far too much into what he's saying. :p

I did hint at wireless charging though, remember that!!

You're our new official Samsung leak expert!

I wonder what the dock 'thing' will cost.

We really can't judge the camera yet, all we know is that it's an 8mp sensor, which means nothing, it's clearly not the same sensor as the SGS2, or the SGN, so it's a new (to Samsung) sensor so who knows whether it's an improvement or not...

Also the screen, it's not the same panel as the SGN so again can we really judge it yet? Chances are the One X will still be better (although personally the proper blacks of an OLED are very appealing), but until reviews are out it's again unknown.

Well the fact that they mentioned improved low light performance, zero shutter lag and simultaneous video + photo capture tells you that it most definitely is a new sensor. You can't introduce hardware features like that without using new hardware.

So it couldn't be a tweaked sensor then?

I'm looking forward to seeing some samples.

Benchmarks seem to be all over the place at the minute. Any idea why that is?

Some sites showing the XL/S having better scores and then others showing that the GS 3 better than the S/XL

Only seen a few but generally the GS3 wins in the 'worthwhile' benchmarks, Vellamo is a win for the XL/S but seems a rather fluffy benchmark, Nenamark is another win but it's useless, everything else (apart from the huge variability of Quadrant, and the uselessness) points to the GS3 being significantly better GPU wise and the Samsung Browser being epic for JS performance...

Imaging sensors don't get tweaked, they get replaced, with new sensors (generally).

We'll see how it performs then. Strange that no samples have appeared yet, I would have thought Samsung would have a load taken in 'optimal' conditions ready to share.

Techradar's 4 page view of it @ http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/samsung-galaxy-s3-1078667/review

And let's take a minute and talk about the screen: it's beautiful. We almost feel sad that this isn't the first HD screen we've seen on a mobile phone, as it's kind of lost its lustre since the likes of the Nexus, Note and One X have all managed the same trick – but if you've not seen one before and you compare it to a Galaxy S2, its worlds apart.

Note the vs GS2 picture:

Although you still have to be "connected" to something physical! :p

Was hoping that it would really be what we were thinking, up to 4 metres wireless charging not by being on top of a pad only.

So isn't really that appealing IMO, still nice none the less though.

And of course, it could cost a fair bit for all we know so will make it even less appealing if so.

I don't mean each device winning specific benchies. On some sites they are stating figures where the GS 3 beats the S/XL where as on other sites they are stating the opposite for the same tests

The GS2 resolution does indeed look dated now.

It looks a bit naff in that picture! :p

(And the one I have here with the Nexus and One X! ;))

Price is obviously important but have you used the Touchstone with either the touchpad or pre?

It really is very very nice, ok so plugging in the usb cable is hardly challenging or annoying but it's something that we generally have to do daily and just placing the phone on a pad/stand is soooo much easier...

Ah, I've only seen the Engadget, gsmarena and Anandtech ones and iirc they all seem to match up by and large?

Ultimately Anandtech is the one I trust the most from years of reading cpu/gpu reviews...

I have a TouchPad with the Touchstone charger and it is good, but it's a lot like a dock really, especially the new ones with pins.

I'd forgotten about the pins on the One X tbh, be interesting to see/use the dock for that, although how much does it cost cause there's only the HTC one available now isn't there? Might negate the cost argument for the wireless charger :p

Comparing it to usb cable though it's a great feature imo, against the pins it might just two ways to achieve the same goal...

Yeah, lets be honest here, the only useful feature really for every day use is the eye tracking, so when you're watching porn on your phone you don't need to keep tapping the screen.

Whoever is saying the Benchmarks mean nothing:

Try running The latest greatest software on a two or three year old device. Assuming the device can handle it's original software fine, the latest greatest software would be extremely sluggish because there's just so much going on.

Even though we may not NEED the quad core now, I'm sure we WILL to handle what's going to be coming out...
