Another thing that will scale is the amount of abilities (and presumably type) that mobs can have. Hate to say it, but think of doing wow instances on heroic mode, those extra skills can make the gameplay totally different. Also it may be like D2 where in higher difficulties resistances come into play, but that part is just specualtion. I know that they said they haven't mentioned resistances much yet as in Normal mode they aren't even a part of the gameplay yet.

At the end of the day things like damage output etc aren't directly going to be increased for mobs because you'll be using the same gear as you do for solo play, and there's going to be multiplayer situations where you're getting focsued/killing mobs on your own when split up etc. There's also no tank/healing roles to make up for anything like that. So intstead they've made things take longer to kill (as damage is essentially x4 from the group) and gave them more abilities (so you actually have to think and learn what elites/bosses can do).

I think I'll probably play the first 2/3 in solo then team up for inferno. Don't want to rage over ridiculously hard stuff, will probably be more fun together.

From what they said of Inferno, you will die.

Hell was tough in D2, I was forever getting one shotted.

Only because everything ramped up so much. Transition from Normal to Nightmare wasn't so bad but even the Zombies out in Blood Moor seemed to have comparable health to Lister the Tormentor and his minions. That and the resistance penalty was seriously harsh. I always hated playing Hell on any physical based character just because you needed extremely good gear to overcome the dire chance to hit and the enemies health.

Even if Inferno proves to be harder than Hell was it should at least have a more reasonable difficulty curve. Plus I'm pretty sure its been said several times that you will be starting Inferno at lv60 so from then its pretty much all about looting, salvaging and improving your gear rather than relying on lucky unique drops.

is it advisable to play the first two Diablo games before getting D3?

i have never played D1 and D2and i am thinking of getting D3 on release date.

was just wondering if the story is continous or separate for each game.

Doubt it, I've never played D1 myself.

Just read the plot bit on wiki if you want, the plots are fairly simple.

The story isn't hugely complicated, and I'd be surprised there's not something in D3 to bring you up to speed story wise. :)

They're good games, but if you don't want to play them before D3, reading the plots on Wikipedia and watching the cinematics on YouTube would probably be enough if it's of interest to you.

I haven't played D1 and D2 either, infact I have never played an RPG game in my life. I have no idea why but D3 has really peaked my interest and I need an excuse to start using my PC again for something other than video editing, so I have preordered it and the hardcover strategy guide. I'm not too worried about the story like others have said I can catch up on that fairly easily, I'm just worried about how much I'm going to struggle cause this is a brand new game genre to me.
