The world population is already predicted to reach 9 billion by 2050, there will eventually be a population problem if there isn't already. Logically we shouldn't waste resources on downright evil people like this..

The problem with the death penalty is it costs just as much as keeping them in prison for life when you consider all the appeals, which are needed to stop innocent people being put to death.

I'm only against the death penalty as long as there isn't a way to guarantee that everyone put to death is 100% guilty. Which I doubt will ever happen.

I agree, just a thought though, if we can take away 25 years or so of someone's life by putting them in jail, then we must also have the evidence in place to put them down? Obviously this is only in extreme cases of evil with clear forensic analysis which I imagine would have already been done.

If you have a society in which certain people are legally classified as non-people and who therefore can be freely tortured to death by anyone who wants to torture people to death, you have a very bad society. That attitude will taint everything else in that society. Legal killing as part of blood feuding, which a few slightly less disturbing people have advocated in this thread, isn't as bad but it doesn't make for a stable society. I kill you, your brother kills me, my brother kills your brother, your sister kills my brother...and 100 years later many people are killing each other without even knowing how it all started. It doesn't help civilisation. Human rights isn't a pick 'n' mix thing. Either all humans have them or they don't really exist.
