I think I want to get involved, but I've looked at various pages online and still can't get my head round exactly what it is?!

It's clearly an RPG, but it appears you can play and complete it in single player like a normal RPG, but can also play coop, plus there are auction houses etc meaning that it must have a MMO element?!

From the gameplay videos I've seen it seems that rather than a big free roam world it's more of a series of linear (although with randomly generated content each time) instances. Right?

Can someone clarify a bit please?

It's a dungeon crawler, hack and slash.

Your character is an awesome death dealing killing machine (various classes)

You go around killing hundreds of thousands of enemys, with a few bosses thrown in for a good "challenge"

Thousands of items, and hundreds of different builds for the classes, unlimited re playability.

Single player, multi player and mmo all rolled into one, you can join or leave a friend (or random) game at anytime to play with other people, or when you are fed up and wanna roll alone you can do it...

Has there been any information regarding armour values vs damage reduction? Just wondering what sort of levels of damage reduction you can expect on say, a Witch Doctor with good gear compared with say, a Barbarian with similar gear but tons of extra strength (as strength also gives armour), since it looks like your damage reduction is going to be absolutely critical to surviving Inferno.

10 strength = 1% armor as far as I remember ?
Also nothing stops you from stacking strength through gems on your WD if you want it more tanky. Also there are various passives / skills / runes that reduce damage.
From what I've seen WD hasnt got many of those tho.

On the other side the amount of control which WD has I would say will make him possibly one of the easiest characters to solo inferno.

You have lots of CC, dots, pets, curses and range so it's not like you'll need much surv. Remember pets in D3 scale with your stats so they will never be weak and useless even in inferno.

Genuinely can't tell if this is a troll or not...

I mean, I can understand not wanting spoilers, but all that was shown was a table showing how much HP a monster has in the 4 difficulties.

Of course it's not a troll.

I don't want to know exactly how much health he's got. When I start the next difficulty, I want the size of the step up to come as a suprise the first time through, and seeing that he's the first real boss, I'd call that a spoiler for people that don't want to know.

It doesn't just show health either... I hadn't even thought about him having a resistance having never fought him using a weapon of that type. I'd have prefered not to know.

Some people still get fun out of playing a game without being spoon fed with guides and walkthroughs. When I hit a boss for the first time, on a hard difficulty, I want to work out the best way through my own efforts, not have some person thats sat with developers and gone through the exact stats of every monster in the game make it easy mode for me by telling me each monsters weaknesses and resistances before I've even got to them.

Is it so hard for people that want to discuss the guide to make a spoiler thread and go post there?

Wait what...are you guys being genuine here? lol.

It's just HP changes of a easy boss (and a few mobs)... even in inferno he will be easy i can guarantee that 100% as long as you progress your character and gear normally through each difficulty.

If you played D2 then you will know that all the bosses had resistance, and some had super high ones at that...it really really shouldn't be that much of a surprise even if you wanted it to be.

I think people know now to do spoiler tags now anyway.

*shrugs*

Why would you think I'm not being?

I don't want to follow some guide written for people too lazy to discover how to beat the game of their own accord. I want to enjoy the game beginning to end without anything ruining that experience. Why should I have to dodge spoilers posted in plain view in the discussion thread?

Clearly, it's not just me. A number of people have said they don't want to read spoilers, and people think we're trolling or joking? Is it really too much to ask for people to think before they post, and make sure they don't spoil things for people?

What spoilers exactly are you refering to? The items mentioned that have been shown from the game guide are in spoiler tags to me and have been since last night. There's really no need to witch hunt people spoiling information from a guide that were clearly just going out of their way to share that information they've seen with the community. A simple explaination and command to use spoiler tags would have sufficed.

They weren't when they were posted. And there's people just typing the values out of the guide and quoting them not in spoiler tags.

If people want to discuss it, they should. Loads of games have a spoiler thread in addition to the non-spoiler one, so not to ruin it for the people that don't want spoilers.

What exactly do you think this thread will be used for when the game is released? Shall no one speak of stats or strategies unless it's in spoiler tags until everyone on the forum has beaten the game?

People are discussing the game, I'm not sure what else you expected in a discussion of Diablo 3 thread.

I was being genuine for reasons pointed out above.

You made a mistake, we were angry, let's move on.

No more spoilers until the 15th please peeps!

I expect to be able to play the game that I've been discussing in this thread for years without having the experience spoilt for me. I don't want to know what the mobs I see in act 4 look like, how much damage they take and do, what their resistances are.

Yes I expect people to discuss stats and strategies, that's all available through the Blizzard site. What I don't expect is people to be posting entire pages from the strategy guide that describe the mobs I'm going to run into in acts we've not seen before with their weaknesses and strengths before the game's even out.

Loads of games have spoiler threads, so that people that don't want to have it spoiled can continue to discuss the game rather than being driven out of the thread. If you want to discuss spoilers just make one? Is it so hard to take people that don't want the game spoilt into consideration over this?

the problem is you evidently have a different idea of what a spoiler is than everyone else, so things could get annoying for you over the next few weeks i think

You do realise the guide isn't even out until the 15th as well? They were just a few pictures to promote it, I don't think anyones going to open a new thread and discussion of a few pointless pages. Your game experience is safe, fear not.

I know you can spec strength on your Witch Doctor to boost armour but I was wondering what sort of levels of damage resistance you can expect for a basic caster class character with decent gear compared with a barbarian who not only gets extra strength as he levels but also uses some gear to buff it. If we're talking the difference between say, 35% DR and 50% DR, then the melee character is going to get his ass handed to him. If we're talking 45% and 75% DR then the melee class will have considerably more survivability.

Its 1 of the reasons D2s defence system sucked so much. It didn't matter how much defence your character had your chance of getting hit in Hell was always too high

Its really not that difficult to confine it to a spoiler tag. The damage the enemies deal intrigues me, hence asking if anyone knew much about the damage resistance you can expect if Blizzard have shown it anywhere. But I'm not going to actually quote the damage.
