New Samsung S23A700D 120Hz

I'm not sure then, but SBS definitely halfed my width on my 680.

When you say halved your width, do you mean you had black borders either side? If I'm seeing full screen 3D where the whole screen is filled and there appears to be no distortion/stretching, do I assume I'm watching 3D in 1920x1080? It's all a little confusing isn't it. :p

Damn. So how do I get full 3D res? I just tried tommy's setting '(standard display types)', 'Direct3D Stereo (120Hz)' and tried skyrim again, and the 3D looks exactly the same as when I had it in side by side.

Here's some 3D tridef screenshots I just took, so stick your glasses on for these. They look great to me, so I've no idea what I'm missing if I'm only getting 980x1080. Not sure if looking at these gives you an indication of what I'm personally seeing or not. They look cool though :p

They're all over 1.5MB each.

Yeah, it's side by side. I don't think you can get frame sequential.

I can't find a profile, I think it's the DX8 thing.
Have no reason to switch to anaglyph, it's still tridef.

Oh I see you dislike Tridef I was wondering why you'd prefer Red/Green :)

I'm not loving them either. Along with Ati and Samsung they need to sort there softwre out.

Tbf though the Tridef forums all seem to have people who prefer using Tridef on their Nvidias.

I just tried SBS on the 7970, and it's definitely halving the width.
The image is stretched/distorted.

I've taken a screenshot, will just try stereo and take another screenshot.

That's the way side by side works. Here is an explaination

In side by side 3D the frame is splitted verticaly in two parts: left part is intended for the left eye, right part - for the right one. So if we have 720p frame (which is 1280 x 800 resolution), the left part of the frame is 640 x 800 pixels of resolution, and the same resolution has the right part of the frame. In that way each of the eye recieves image which is horizontaly downsized in half.

SBS is definitely less sharp/clear than the direct 3D, and the Nvidia was incapable of using the direct 3D.

Although viewing the screenshots is weird as they both seem the same, when I know they weren't :s

Thanks melmac. Well it looks good to me right now, so I imagine it's going to look absolutely amazing in Frame Sequential when I get my HD7850.

People who prefer Tridef over Nvidia are kidding themselves, the only advantage it has is that it's a lot cheaper.

I guess the screenshots look different to each person according to their 3D settings.

I mean.
I took a screenshot using Side by Side, and then took a screenshot afterwards in Direct 3D 120HZ.

I know the Side by Side didn't look as good, but I can't see the difference when viewing the screenshots, when there was quite a difference.

Well I was considering returning 2 of my monitors after the trouble I've had and possibly getting either another 7900 or going over to the Green team with a 680.

I take it these are better with an ATI card then?

This monitor is better with AMD cards because Nvidia don't allow for frame sequential with Tridef, which was why I got rid of my 680.
I miss the **** out of it though :p

Not really, Tridef is way better in a lot of situations. There is less crosstalk issues. Nvidia 3D seems to be better support for games out of the box, but the Tridef are much better at supporting games after they come out.

Of course there is going to be a difference if you use side by side in tridef and are comparing it to steroscopic 3D because it is frame sequential.

In fact I much prefer Tridef. It's much more robust than 3d Vision and handles FPS games much better.

Do the screen shots open with what Tridef is already set to? Isn't there an option to switch how to view pics? I'm in work atm so can't check myself and I've not tried much movies or pics so I'm not sure.

I did watch Transformers 3 and while being a pretty poor film the last hour was amazing in 3D

We'll agree to disagree, I'll guess it's subjective then.
But you can't beat the simplicity of enabling Nvidia 3D and then that's it, no messing around, except depth.

Just off topic for a moment, I love the 120Hz in 2D. I've been testing in Skyrim again. With 60Hz I get up to 60fps, then I minimise the game, swap my monitor setting back to 120Hz and return to the game, now giving me up to 120fps. The difference in smoothness is almost night and day, particularly when doing fast left and right rotations, it's excellent.

I read of someone getting FS on an Nvidia card with Tridef and 3D vision or something?

But I think you need older drivers which probably wouldnt work with a 680 :(

try watching 3d in the dark, and have dark stuff around the monitor if you can. as the glasses flash black, u will notice it way more on a white background (white wall, other screen with a webpage up etc)

but yeah 3d is aggressive on the eyes, even passive for me, with active being by far the worst :/
