What film did you watch last night?

Just watched Moneyball.

Absolutely, been meaning to watch this for a long time, it payed off big time.

What a quaility well told piece, it touched and engaged me from the start with brilliant dialogue and masterfull performance from brad pitt.

A solid 9 for what it is.

Safe - 4/10

Another Jason Statham film that follows his style to the letter, with formulaic characters, story, and set pieces. Unfortunately, everything in the film has been done before, and usually to a better standard. Violent and fast paced, this film feels like the middle chapter of a bigger story, with not enough closure at the end.

Sin City...gave up for the second time after 30 minutes...which is the second film ever I have never finished watching, just found it boring, so 1/10. 1 because of the nice looking ladies.
Thor - 7/10 Good but a bit cheesy
Captain America - 8/10 Very enjoyable
Drive - Excellent, sad ending 9/10

Harry Brown (for the second time, the wife's first). It's has just as strong an impact as the first time. A gritty, terrifying depiction of how I imagine life to be on certain scummy estates. Even if it is excessive, it probably isn't too far from reality.

Captain America : The First Avenger - I was actually quite pleased with this, what with Thor being quite hit and miss. I'm always pleased to see niche Marvel baddies (You can imagine my reaction at the end of Avengers Assemble!) :D

Just finished Contagion. I thought it was really good, wouldn't normally pick a film like it but thought the acting was good (bar Jude Laws accent), the story was great and just held my attention really well. 7.5/10.

Hugo. I really liked how the film looked, and the plot was quite fun in an Amelie sort of way, but some bits just didn't quite gel.

Some of the CGI also really irked me - the bit with the little clockwork mouse and the bit where they knocked Papa George's papers everywhere and they floated around for about half an hour.

man on fire, loved it, as usual Denzel did a great job. Maybe a bit long winded but IMO was much much better than taken! Was never really keen on the film taken and honestly didn't see what all the fuss was about and I personally didn't think it deserved the high praise that it got.......

Anyway for man on fire, easily a 8/10

Avengers Assemble - thoroughly enjoyed it - 8/10

I'm always pleased to see niche Marvel baddies (You can imagine my reaction at the end of Avengers Assemble!) :D

I was a little disappointed with this to be honest - I'd like to see some super villains introduced and form a team to take the Avengers on in the next one!

The problem with multiple baddies is that it never quite works well in movies.
For example, Spiderman 3 and one of the last (non-Nolan) Batman movies.
And besides, if rumours are true, then Thanos will be plenty strong enough to give The Avengers are serious fight.

Iron man tonight, and Avengers on Wednesday.. But:

Saturday - Thor - 7.3/10
Sunday - Captain America - 7.4/10
Monday - The Incredible Hulk - 7/10
The Incredible Hulk is the only one I haven't seen before, and I just feel it was missing something. There wasn't the realisation of being good almost. There was no acceptance of using hulk powers for good, and that annoyed me a bit.

Quite intrigued by the fact that they haven't called Edward Norton in to be Bruce Banner in the Avengers, when it was quite clearly linked due to Robert Downey Jr.'s appearance right at the end.

They did ask Norton to do Hulk.
Negotiations were in progress.
All of a sudden, for whatever reason (probably because a deal had been struck with Ruffalo), Norton;s agent got a call from the producers to say that Norton's services would no longer be required.
There were then several social networking messages, showing both Norton's and his agents bitterness towards the situation (which was understandable).

Flatliners

8/10 cracking film.

I saw this in the cinema when it first released. Good movie.
At the time, the 4 main actors were, if you like, the new brat pack. They were the up & coming stars of the future.

Kiefer Sunderland was engaged to Julia Roberts and they were going to the BIG Hollywood couple. Julia Roberts, of course (who came to prominence with her massive hit: Pretty Woman (highest grossing film of its year)), went on to become the highest earning actress (over the next few years) and Sunderland went on to have a huge success with '24'.

Of course, Sunderland and Roberts never did get married. Instead, she got married to a guy called Lyle Lovett (who was seen as nothing more than joke). :D

Trading Places - 8/10

Still a classic film, couldn't not watch it when I noticed it was on. Some of it is very cheesy, but still always gets me laughing :)

Two from the weekend:-

Layer Cake - Enjoyable Brit gangster film with Daniel Craig, very Guy Richie-esqe. Good cast. 4/5

Battle Royale - Apart from the 'not really explained' philosophy behind the whole thing it was a very good film about a class of Japanese school children (15 year olds) being forced to kill each other. 4/5
