Could someone help me out here.
Why on earth can Pokemon not use the same Internet connection my 3ds does, you have to set up a separate one but it doesn't support my routers password type? Do they want me to use a worse password type just to play Pokemon online?

The DS didn't support WPA. The 3ds does. No ds game can use a WPA connection, even when using a 3ds. I have no idea why Nintendo did it like this, it's like the game accesses the hardware directly rather than interact with the OS layer: I guess this is how consoles used to work before they had proper operating systems.
There's nothing you can do to fix it. Nintendo's workaround is for you to purchase the Nintendo usb wireless stick which requires a powered up Internet connected pc as a proxy.
This is wrong, my 3DS uses a WPA2 password and I can use wifi using my Pokemon White game using that connection.
Edit: I'm half right. The DSi does support WPA so ds games released after the release of the DSi have a better chance of working with WPA. Maybe there is an list online somewhere showing ds games supporting WPA. As the rest of the comments ask, which version of Pokemon are you using?

So what big games coming out this year then, it seems a bit quiet?
As a side note, anyone used their stars to get anything from the Club Nintendo?
