***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

No, but you can make an informed guess based on the power usage of the technology at hand.

Can't see what more it offers? :p

not really in real world, i dont play games etc so i doubt i would see any CPU/gpu based gains

the screen is just a tad bigger than the galaxy nexus too. I will visit a shop but doubt i will go for it, also annoying how you have to hold a button for recent apps [not on standard ICS], does make me feel how good a job google have done with stock ICS,

i completely agree about the white, also ICS does suit a black phone.

Finally, the full GSMArena preview is up, not review, but the closest thing so far and it's in the hands of the guys who know their stuff! :)

Edit: In short:
  • Screen seems excellent and arguably the best around, so it must have been improved on from the Nexus!
  • Camera seems good, not massively different to the other good 8MP cameras (4S/S2/X)
  • Video recording looks very good
  • Design and perceived build quality are still in the balance
  • Oh, and it's fast :p

One of the better videos so far, shows the gestures:

Excellent, side by side with the Nexus shows the S3 only a fraction longer so Nexus pouches/holders should be just fine.

Time to do some shopping :p

No idea :p Contact them!

I just noticed something on that GSMArena video samples from 1080p and 720p, at 1080p the viewfinder doesn't zoom in like it does on the Galaxy SII.

Finally!

First thing I checked and was well happy. The videos looked really sharp and detailed. The new sensor is definitely an upgrade from the SGS II sensor.

Yup the 1080p raw sample that GSMArena uploaded for download has incredible detail, very much looking forward to using the video recorder out and about!

Also do I spot that you can put battery percentage in the notification bar or is that an app GSMArena have installed? I can't imagine it's an app as app icons go on the left and not the right (without root anyway).

Interesting if so and maybe a first for any factory Android handset?

Looking pretty good in that preview!

Screen sounds like it is truly something special, originally the X screen was said to make the nexus screen pretty poor in comparison :p

Will need to see more photo samples first. But as expected video recording is much better than HTC.

Also robbo, I thought lcd/ips would always be your choice than amoled due to the colours and sharpness? :p

Yes you can display battery percentage natively now.

Amazing, no more messing with battery % mods, just root, ICS blue battery icon and that's it for me :) (GoLauncher EX too of course).

giving that painted on top of the glass look that we love so much.

So yeah, One X is most definitely off my radar :p

Edit*
So the phone that 90% of the internet got all up in arms about is turning out to be one of the best featured, smoothest and well specced phones coming out and a worthy successor to the Galaxy S2 :D

Edit2*
Looking around other sources, it seems Samsung have borrowed quite a few tweaks that have made their way onto AOKP/AOSP ROMs seen on the Galaxy S2 over the last 6~ months. This is no bad thing and should receive a warm welcome from people who don't want to root but do want those tweaks.

Generally it would be, but AMOLED seems to have improved quite a bit by the sound of it.

I have the Nexus as you know and side by side the One X screen is just dazzling in comparison, though one isn't hugely better than the other. Just different.

For everything aside from media consumption (video/images/games) I'd rather have an IPS LCD. I don't do an awful lot of video watching and gaming so it's not much of a benefit. I do like the deep black levels though (when on a black screen!).

I generally would agree with this article here: http://www.stuff-review.com/2012-04/display-shootout-htc-one-x-vs-galaxy-nexus-vs-ipad-3/

If they've leveled up the outdoor legibility and colour accuracy (just a little bit) then I'll be impressed... they seem to have pulled the whites closer to the LCD levels too...

I think it's wise for me to hang on to the One X, then get an S3 or iPhone 5 when I know what the latter is like.

Not really, people seemed to take issue with the design and look of it, and that hasn't changed!

I still don't like the phone though! :p The design, software completely put me off it, it had just been the same as the GS 2 for the casing, then no problems! :p

It isn't going to be a huge difference between it, the X and S (apart from the screen for the S!).

Also we don't know if it is the smoothest yet, I am pretty sure it will be but the S is damn smooth and quick [this is with about 60 apps installed, most of which have replaced stock] (still haven't seen any lag or slow down whatsoever apart from the tab interface in sense browser) and as is shown by the benchmarks it still beats the GS 3 and the other phones in quite a few tests.

Interested to see the screen in sunlight as that is one area that I am very impressed by on my S, on the sunniest day when I was writing the review I could easily see the screen in direct sun light at 80% brightness, was not expecting that, so the GS 3 should be very special here and a lower brightness.
