Friend found religion...

in my village there are some Christian farmers and they wouldn't let one of the son's see his non religious girlfriend so he took his dads shot gun wandered away from the farm and blew his own brains out.

That is all.

Classical OCUK responses. Everywhere in this forum you will find responses claiming that religion causes so many problems and is the source of evil. The first reply in this thread suggests assaulting the said individual? Live and let live seems to only work one way.

It is his life and he can believe whatever he wants. It isn't a strange thing for people to follow religion in a Christian country you know. Some folks actually look into a faith and the historical evidences that may back it up rather than the typical OCUK response of 'lol religion'.

I won't be forcing my beliefs down anyone else's throat but it seems that the OCUK anti-religion brigade have a stronger conviction than religious people.

We don't live in a Christian society.

Fez actually I think they found birth records that proved Jesus had been born....

Just to clarify I believe in God, I've had personal experiences that have made me believe, and I try to live the best life that I can. I'm a good partner a great Dad to my two kids and am trying to better my life through education to provide the best life I can for my family...

I hold absolutely no faith in the church and organised religion as a whole...

Birth records.... Is this for true?

Does it say who the father is?

I've always been very skeptical about religion... I just love to ask question.

i seem to remember reading Jesus was actually the son of a very rich and powerful person. cant remember if they were in line of the throne or not.

the problem with the bible is most of it was written hundreds of years after the events and they picked certain things that should be in and burnt other accounts and contradicted. this was also written and translated several times, losing clarity each time.

op: He sounds like he has been brainwashed by the happy clappers. do his parents know? if so, what do they think? maybe you need to have a chat with them?

well, i guess a thousand years of oppression and murder of athiests wont really help the christians. a lot of christian people are people with the least christian values (i.e. *********)

maybe athiests are finally getting their say? and not being killed by the church?

i also believe that the punch him in the face comments are just joking. but if he is starting to judge and **** people off it seems he is less christian that us athiests. religion is ok, keep it to yourself. organised religion is a scar on the face of the planet. doesnt the bible even say not to preach to those who arent interested? the problem is that many religious types try to force their way of live on the rest of us. for example religious leaders trying to affect political policy. they also pick and choose which bits to follow.

my last GF before my wife was a happy clapper and part of the New Life church. some of the stuff she believed genuinely scared me.

old girlfriend of mine, dumped me on our year anniversary after finding God.

Went to a music event that turned out to be christian music, they then stopped halfway in and said they would like to lay hands on people and pray for them.
I got out, Came back after half an hour and my GF and her friend were hugging, separated when I got close to them, 2 days later I was dumped, she felt jesus go through her.

What a load of ****, she now plays a guitar at one of "those" churches.

"Thank God" I got out of that one. Saying that she married someone that is my spitting image :P

It might be interesting for you to have a look into other historical records from that period of time that mention about a rumour that was spread around saying that the soldiers who were meant to guard the tomb had fallen asleep and that is why the body was gone. Would that not suggest to you that the body really wasn't there? Would eye witness accounts from that time not be worth investigating? I'm not saying they are correct but it surely is worth investigating.

Made me laugh. Historical accounts of a rumour. What historical accounts and eye witness reports are available from that period of history, because I'm going to guess with not a huge number.

What's your opinion on Noah and the suggestion by the bible he lived to be 950 years old? Is that backed up by historical evidence?

What will always baffle me is how Christains are so weak minded, they actually believe that without the indoctrination of Christianity, they couldn't possibly be a good person.

See this is what I find really sad about religion. Why do you need some promise of eternal salvation and reward etc. to not be a **** to other people?

While I agree with some of the ideology behind the teachings of the bible, to try and claim it was written with any divine inspiration is just as delusional as claiming your best mate is called Gandalf and recently got back from A&E after a bit of punch up with a Balrog of Morgoth. ;)

Let him believe what he wants but tell him not to desrespect you or your family. Reglious or no, that's out of order.

You claim that religion is ok and to keep it to yourself but yet you suggest to the OP to possibly mention to the guys parents to see if they know what he is up to. I detect a slight bit of hypocrisy there? Live and let live - remember? Are you seriously suggesting that the OP approach the guys parents and interfere in his personal beliefs? OK.

You could also mention all the thousands of Christians who have been murdered down through the years. Look at the records of the persecution endured under Nero for example.

********* you say? I think you are now stooping to exactly the same level as that implied in the OP. Saying things about people and their families? Very tolerant you are.

"A scar on the face of the planet" - is it possible that my own faith adds to this scar? If so, how can I change, how can I make things better? I mentioned it before - let's abolish religion from now on. Is the world suddenly a better place? I'd suggest that you will still call people ********* regardless of the fact that religion exists/doesn't.

And to correct another point - no the Bible says that Christians should engage in sharing their faith with other people. It doesn't say to force it to anyone either. As a Christian I know that people will only be willing to listen to my beliefs if I appear to be a normal guy, friendly, good work colleague, respectable neighbour etc. I can't really expect to win respect if I am forcing something on people.

I have said it before that the resurrection is one of the most well attested claims in the Bible. What is so shocking about the reporting of a rumour that supposedly spread like wildfire in the local area with the aim of denouncing the resurrection? History is allowed to record rumour as well as events or anything else.

What I don't understand is that we supposedly have historical proof of things that happened millions of years ago and yet literal historical records which have been found thousands of years ago are rubbished.

Not looked into Noah but I will do a bit of research.

There is absolutely no link between having eternal salvation and being a **** to other people? You could have any belief or no belief and still be a **** to other people. In this example the person being a **** just happens to be religious.

Ok, to repeat a point from a previous post. Let's assume that as of now the Bible doesn't claim to be inspired. All it is therefore is just another historical writing. Do you now accept the accounts in it? If not, then do you accept that many other historians from similar time periods are also wrong?

Funnily enough we do - the census backs this up.

There is more to society than the internet.

if you have the option of christian, muslin or buddhist people put christian as there isnt a 'dont believe in fairies' option. there certainly didnt used to be

lots of research on this and many people but C of E who arent religious.

if he thinks its more of a brainwashing cult then yes, speak to parents. or ask parents if he seems ok to them? if he is acting weird and being aggressive it doesnt seem like normal actions to me. how do you know they arent some Moonie cult? Wako etc...

that wasnt athiests with Nero though, that was another religion.

regarding the aholes comment i mean that some very religious people dont hold christian values. like where my mum used to work (religious schools dept as a secretary) and they were all trying to stitch each other up. she left in the end because of their actions. they didnt sound very Christian to me.

i said organised religion - please dont deliberately misquote me. organised religion was established to create control over the people. wasnt there a passage in the bible saying that god has no church etc... oh no, that one was left out wasnt it. but it was part of the dead seas scrolls or some other ones that the church tried to bury.

yes, religious and none-religious both have *********. no doubt. but surely a 'good christian' should be a better person than one of us heretics? they dont seem to be to me.

dont several other religions also have a raising of the dead. in fact a lot of the bible is just taken from other religions. it was all done 400+ years after the fact when they all sat down and agreed what they would add and what they wouldnt. not a single jot of proof though.

the accounts are all written hundreds of years after the dates. gone through many translations. basically chinese whispers.

fair play, you have faith. more power to you. but there is still no proof for anything. there are records of jesus being an ordinary man then hundreds of years later he is turned from preacher into son of god. by committee.

i seriously think you need to do some more research
