OK, so I've not played Diablo before, but I seem to have been completely caught up in the excitement.
All I was looking for was a good online game that I can get into and get some regular coop games going, so I found this thread, watched some videos and mooched around the Diablo website.

That's led me to upgrading my GPU (although cheaply), installing the 5.1 speakers I've had for years and never seen the point in hooking up, and I've got a headset, Diablo III and mug on order with OcUK.......


This game better be bloody good!!!!
 
Woah. WTF!? Diablo 3 is out next week?

I haven't played or kept up with games in ages, i'm not sure if i even want too - i feel like i've just grown away from it. I spent thousands of hours on D2 though so surely i must play this? Is it predicted to be as good as Diablo 2 or is it too modernised?

I guess 80% of the online community will be WoW kids aswell, that kinda puts me off a bit.

One thing is for sure the mug will be good.

At the end of the day it's up to you, watch the videos, see if it looks like a game you will like. We are not really here to sell you the game, you will either like it or you won't. I've seen people say they loved D2 but did not like the open beta of D3, and people who've never played it or weren't keen on D2 saying the opposite.

I loved D2 and played it quite a bit and to me D3 feels like the same game, prettier, and with some nice touches added to make it better (auto gold pickup when moving near it, items don't take up ridiculous item slots in your inventory etc).

I for one am looking forwards to it.

Does anyone know if character names are unique or if you could have multiple people with the same in game character names, with the account name as the differentiator?

both character names and battle tags are not unique (atleast the bit before the #12345 on the battletag) AFAIK

Haha, I'm sure I've been called worse! =) It's no big deal because I won't be able to play until the servers go online anyway but I am resting a little easier knowing that it was dispatched today, if it lands on Monday that would be fantastic. Hope the rest of you get your dispatch emails soon.

I have also taken an 'all in' approach with Diablo III. I bought the game, the limited edition hardcover guide and the 'Book of Cain' which contains an awful lot of information/artwork about the Diablo universe. I will probably upgrade my card too but I think my GTX 260 has just enough in it to run this on fairly high settings.
 
My CE status with GAME is still sitting at unshipped (bank has been charged) whereas other people have reported theirs as being shipped. Making me think that they have ran out of stock and can't fulfil my order. Guess I will have to wait another day to see.
 
What I don't get is why they can't ship the game out a day earlier than the servers are up, surely if it requires activation online to play it matters not if people are able to go and buy it early!

Mine is coming from Amazon so hope it arrives on the day, the 14th would be good though so I can play it that night :)

That's my thinking and also the reason why Blizzard are making a killing out of the Digital Version.

One day they'll catch up with reality.
 
Someone posted previously that the game won't ship until active as normal people (not geeks like us who get that the servers aren't up yet) won't understand or tollerate buying a game that they can't simply install and play as soon as they get home.

Mhm, there's normal and collectors edition games already shipped out and in the hands of buyers. It's how there are spoilers on the net after all.

Wrong. The majority of the very few CE unboxing vids are from people who work in game stores. The same goes for standard editions which have gotten free.
 
Got a feeling Tesco's is going to suck with dispatching this on time! Not to bothered about logging in @ 11pm at night, what ever time servers go live, but i do want to play the next day. I have never ordered from Tesco's before.

With two threads you have one for spoilers and one for other (technical help, beginners help etc) Both parties are happy and you can dip into the spoilers thread when you've finished the story (or earlier if you wish) without having to click to view every post.

It's the same reason we have a multiplayer thread, there's no reason it can't be in here but it clutters it up and makes it harder to get questions answered etc, we might even have a trading thread if it's needed.

100% agree with you on this.

However, this isn't the place to discuss the issue of spoilers and the use of spoiler tags so can I please ask you all to discuss that in a separate thread and keep this on topic - Thanks
