Hello, i recently bought http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-071-AK to control the speeds of these fans. But it doesnt seem to work i can't control them at all. Its been correctly placed in the cpu fan slot and i can't seem to do anything.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but doesn't the Phanteks come with a 3 pin fan connector, rather than the 4 pin PWM connector? Therefore sticking it in a PWM header will not afford PWM control.

If you already have this then it's probably your BIOS not controlling/not set to control.

I am waiting for my Phanteks with extra fan (3 fan setup) to arrive and
emailed Phanteks support asking for info oh how their free adapter could work:

They are 3 pin but a PWM adapter is bundled that is 4 pinned.
Here's a picture of the adapter, it's the cable next to the thermal paste tube.

PWM fan wiring is +, -, PWM, & fan speed, speed controlled by 12v pulse
3pin fan wiring is +, -, & fan speed; speed controlled by voltage
PWM fan = bios monitoring fan speed and sending a PWM signal to fan. Fan uses signal to control 12v pulse to fan speed. 12v power source does not have to come from motherboard.
3pin fan = bios monitoring fan speed and regulating voltage to fan to control speed. Regulated power has to come from motherboard.
IMHO the biggest advantage of PWM is motherboard doesn't have to power the fans.. only supply PWM signal. You can control any number of fans with motherboard PWM signal using PSU 12v power source to power fans.

There are loads of ways to do it but mainly it's about using a MOSFET or a series of power transistors to switch the fan on and off at the intervals determined by the 5v@25kHz PWM signal.
That adaptor cable seems mighty thin though so I wonder what Phantek have done.

So you think their adapter might be reading the rpm signal and sending a 12v pulse back to fan. AKA a 3 pin plug to 4 pin socket inline stand alone PWM module. If that's the case, then might be able to adapt and use on splitter cable by sourcing 12v from PSU instead of from motherboard.
Phanteks hasn't given me a reasonable answer yet... they probably won't. I am good at basic electrics, but modern electronics are beyond me.

2 pin cylindrical one has 25v & 10uf on it.. hooked to 12v & earth on one end of board.
3 pin cylindrical mounted to E, B & C on board
yellow wire (rpm??)
4 tiny (1mm square) mounted at R1, R2, R3 & R4 on board
a 3 pin flat 7x10mm thing with B772 on it.

I'm particularly interested because I'm considering makin my owUn circuit and want to compare against my own ideas and research.
