*** The official Sony Xperia S thread ***

Calendar problem fixed - just took a while to catch up. A much more annoying problem is the cursor. When selecting text or position my cursor, at times, has an absolute fit. It really struggles in OcUK's 'Quick Reply' and 'Advanced Reply' boxes - you select where you want it and it places itself in random places and jumps.

Yeah I have had that problem with the cursor, ended up stopping what I was doing and restarting the app (and yes is it annoying).

Getting the yellow tinting problem on the screen of mine now, noticed it earlier after playing a game for about 15-20 minutes, it disappeared again shortly after.

I get lines down the left and right side of the screen, and one across the top. On my 3rd Xperia S now as well, will give Carphone Warehouse a ring to see what would be best, considering asking them if I can swap to another phone altogether. Not very impressed at all!

One thing I am finding annoying - when swiping through looking at pictures, about 80% of the picture shows straight away, with blank space above and below (or left and right), and then after a delay of a good 1+ second the other 10% on each side fills out. 1 second doesn't sound much, but it gives the impression that the phone is slow and it is surprisngly annoying. Oddly, it doesn't do it all of the time, just some of the time.

That's the rubbish default Android gallery, I think the ICS update will bring really nice NXT UI one?

In the meantime install QuickPic, Scalado or similar.

I'm sending my Xperia S back to buymobilephones, hopefully to get a replacement due to the yellow tint problem.

Could I have some advice for a smartphone n00b?
I want to back up the entire thing so my homescreen, settings and apps can be restored. I googled it and it seems I need to root the phone to do this.. But then won't buymobilephones notice and it would void the warranty?

Advice appreciated! goto send it back tomorrow!

Thanks

Xperia S on O2 from Tesco

Hi, just got the Xperia S form Tesco on O2 (not Tesco Mobile) phone appears to be completely debranded and reports the Bootloader Unlock is allowed.

Question: Does this mean that my phone gets updates from Sony or O2???

Thanks in advance

I'm actually posting in the correct thread for a change :D

Anyway, has anybody had any problems with yellow fingerprint stains etc on their white Xperia S? I know there is supposed to be some kind of ant-dirt coating on the Xperia(s) and have seen the vids whereby somebody used marker pens and was able to rub them off etc. was just wondering how the coating would actually fare with yellow sweat stains (for want of a better description)? :)

Got a replacement with no yellow tinge!

A question though, does the Xperia S come with a screen protector already on? It looks like theres something over the screen as you can see the edges, especially around the speaker.. Or is this just how the screen is?

I tried applying a screen protector I had bought only to balls it up due to air and dirt.. Seems near impossible to do properly.

The official firmware update has been released on Sony's website!

Now updated and running version .73.

Seems slightly smoother, but may be a placebo. Hopefully battery life has improved a bit!

Ah, so I wonder if I get will that on my Three phone.

EDIT: yes the phone is telling me there is an update, and to get it via the pC

Still no update for me :(

I have an unbranded unlocked handset. Currently on Orange but purchased via the Car Phone Warehouse who don't lock them.

Mine updated smoothly (on Three), although it took a lot longer than I thought, I was slightly worried.

Surely being unlocked and unbranded from CPW shouldn't affect things

Guessing here but my screen protector was in the box and not already over the screen. I know what people mean by the lack of responsiveness along the edge of the screen and over the "buttons" after I put it on.

No it has one preinstalled at the factory. It is very hard to see, look around the edges and the ear speaker opening you should be able to make it out. If it didn't mess up the responsiveness of the capacitive buttons it'd be the best screen cover ever.

Now you are making me wonder, do I have two protective screens on mine now...
