Are there any fellow wizard strugglers? Act 1 & 2 (normal mode) didn't seem too hard. Apart from the final boss of Act 2, which took me around 8 attempts. I figured this was just intentionally hard. However a friend of mine whose a Witch Doctor, took him down on his first try and is steam rolling through Act 3, whereas I'm dying/chugging pots fairly regularly.
Any wizards got any ideas? It may well be the build I'm using, it's very much kamikaze, I run into packs of mobs using diamond skin and then let off a boat load of short range aoe. Rinse and repeat. I'll post up my full build when I get home from work, but if anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful.

I'd say that's probably not the way to play Wizard solo. I'm levelling a Wizard at the moment, he's level 9, and very squishy. If you're playing online with other players, and have a Monk or a Barbarian in the party, then by all means run into the pack and AoE as much as possible, but definitely don't use that for solo play. They'll all focus on you and you'll die very fast. I attack at range, and then pop Frost Nova and Wave of Force when they get too close, then move away and attack from range again. I don't like getting caught in the middle of a pack of hungry mobs :)

Gear.. spend time on the AH, get some Int/Vital/Regen (health) gear.. and a shied .. it really helps until your more familiar with the encounters and areas :)

Also .. close range AOE? ugh =/ you have so many good ranged AOE options, keep your distance.

I watched a developers guide on the Wizard prior to release, they suggested a melee wizard was definitely viable. Even showed you a video of a melee-based Wizard doing Inferno solo. Maybe I just need better gear.

It might be possible as you unlock better gear, but I've found that to start with, you take loads of damage if you find yourself in the middle of a bunch of mobs. Not like the Monk which just shrugs off the damage. Have you unlocked the armour spells yet?

Not quite sure why you'd ever want to play a pure caster class as melee, but each to their own I guess.

Bosses drop less loot if you've already killed them. And the mechanics of the game have been fixed to make it that just hitting bosses over and over isn't the most efficient way of getting loot, Elites and champions are.

When you hit 60, you get the Nephalem Valor buff from champs and elites, which will give you huge MF bonuses. Then bosses come back into play for good loot. :p

Just read about that Nephalem Valor buff, sounds much better system! Can't wait.

Anyone found the bosses don't drop much on nightmare? Done the two act 1 bosses and got just 4 magic items no rares total :/

Only ever had a couple of yellows but it's only nightmare! Normal mode = tutorial, nightmare = easy, etc. Etc.

Real loot begins at 60

Anyone else's wife/girlfriend getting hacked off with the playing time? I'm getting proper grumpy looks when I slink off to my man cave on an evening.

Yes, the missus worked nightshift on Monday night but she's off now until saturday and sunday. She's decided with all her wonderful time off that we should both redecorate the bedroom so I'm only getting an hour or 2 a night can't really get a good session in =( I have a game on Sunday and we're away so I'll be gone all day so Saturday is really my only chance to get some serious hours in.

Yeah but every boss on normal dropped rares :p

Starting to get harder now, Butcher took us a few go's and some elite packs are just destroying us.
