Show us your kitty cats

Back at my parents house for dinner when my first ever kitty came onto my lap...

Owned! :D

I think an AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW is needed!

Winston is far too adorable! He's probably just a little nervous about a new place to live, you cat hid behind the sofa most the time for the first few weeks as his safe place. He got over it fairly quickly after we each spend different times of the day as play time with him (I got night shift so now he expects me to play some evenings randomly).

I'm sure he'll relax and get comfortable soon enough

We haven't got him yet, he's still with the breeder for another 5 weeks, we're just worried he might be a nervy cat and as cute as he is, we aren't looking to shell out as much cash as we are planning for a timid cat. :(

Will see how he is in another 2 weeks.

As pingwing says I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you just let him be when he gets to you and let him adjust he will come out of his shell. I have just started fostering cats and the first 2 I had one was fine but the other hid behind the sofa and stuff the first 2 days and I didn't think she would ever come out and socialise. By the time I had to give them up to their new home she was sitting on me and letting me rub her tummy etc.

And the 2 new cats I have now are still a little nervous and one of them wouldn't come out from under the table on the first day then the next morning she was like a different cat letting me stroke her and she also sat on me so every cat is different and as long as you don't go chasing him around I'm sure he'll be a great addition to your home.

That's what we are hoping for, but to elaborate on our concerns:

We really need our kitten to be confident, as it will be spending time in 2 households. Our flat with the 2 of us, and frequent weekends are my gf's parents place, where there are 2 dogs and another cat.

The breeder is raising the kittens in a cattery at the end of the garden, so the kittens aren't getting the in-household socialising that some other breeders do, which gets them used to people going about their daily business and the sounds and smells of a household.

The main concern is that the breeder's granddaughter has been staying with them for the past week. She is about 6/7 and has taken a shine to him, and was quite heavy handed with him (as kids can be) when she came in to see him. He was terrified of her, and we're worried this could emotionally scar him. /emo

My next cat I want to buy from an animal shelter instead of from an animal breeder. Whilst a pedigree cat is nice I'll have more satisfaction from helping a cat that came from a potentially violent home or something.

My current cat is 10 years old and is currently trying to find some shelter in this heat wave lol

Do any of you fit your cats with bells?

One of my girlfriends cats had a bell around it's neck so the birds can be alerted of it's arrival.... I must admit I feel sorry for the cat and would never attach a bell to my cat.

I had to put one on my cat...currently she's taken 3 birds home in the last 3 days. Managed to rescue 2 before they were killed :(

Nature though...she's a killing machine

no, only a flea collar. My cat is weird it doesn't kill birds. A baby pigeon fell from the roof and for 3 days it stayed outside defending it from other cats and foxes.

does anyone's kittens/cats not drink out of the cat bowl but will happily squeeze their entire head into a glass of water and drink from that?
I thought it was funny at first but Its got to a point where I have to leave a glass of water on the floor in fear of them dehydrating.

Haha yes. At a guess, they see you drinking from glasses and associate the behaviour. I don't trust the glass of water my by bedside anymore thanks to many a night being woken up by a thirsty cat clambering over me.

One of my cats will only drink out of a running tap. Its really annoying having to turn the tap on for the cat !

Chances are your recently poured glass of water is fresher than the bowl on the floor, and cats have a thing about fresh water. They also prefer running water as in nature it is deemed fresher than a stagnant pool.

As such, I got a small fountain for our little guy.

Hey all,

Nice cats :)

We have had our cat about 7 months now and got her from a nice home (before that she was a rescue cat). Previous owner was pregnant and was getting rashes. We got her off the preloved.com. She is very chilled and yeh she is a bit fat but its mostly fur :D

Fat pic :D
