***Offical Game of Year Contender Dragons Dogma***

http://www.officialplaystationmagazine.co.uk/review/dragons-dogma-ps3-review/2/

looking good. Reviews so far have been pretty much what i expected. :)

a hardcore rpg that doesnt hold your hand, but with slightly dodgy camera system and not as much interactivity as a more indepth rpg like skyrim.

This to me is a free roaming action rpg.

One thing which i read which was weird is there is no crafting in the game... (you get stuff which modifies and upgrades weapons etc) however in the main city there is a Blacksmiths...which is empty....i hope capcom wont do some backdoor dlc for crafting

after playing skyrim on the pc this is just awful

Honestly, comparing this game to something like Skyrim is the easiest mistake one can make.

Just because both games have a Western fantasy setting and dragons doesn't make it so.

Gameplay wise, Dragon's Dogma is like a mish mash of Phantasy Star Online/Universe, Monster Hunter and Shadow of the Colossus.

Yeah but some like to discover these little things themselves i guess thats what i meant.

after reading hopes raised a bit for the game

Mine too. Just played the demo again and I think I'll be getting this now unless reviews in the week suggest the game is broken.

Just had a quick blast of the demo, and I quite like it. Dont expect Skyrim's epic scale, but if you look towards the likes of Dragonage but with a better action game combat system, You're not far wrong.

I think I'll be buying it

That's one hell of an epic opening song by B'z.

So totally out of place, but that's what makes this game so damn Capcom and Japanese. :p

I really hope there will be a PC version of this game.

Played it for a bit last night, not all that far in but im enjoying it so far. I quite like the art direction in the game, things look to be based more on what you would expect for that time period rather than your typical high fantasy type settings.

This game is epic. I spent the first hour+ just exploring the starting village, and doing quests thereing.

There seems to be plenty to discover in the world, and night battles are great when you just have a small area of visibility (assuming you packed your lantern).

Also, who knew people would hide their money atop chimneys !? (It's also nice finding 10K gold in a crate, especially with the cost of items)

I've only just reached 'The Encampment' and after 3 hours+ total, I'm enjoying it more than most games I've played this year.

I'm really enjoying this game too! Sure, its a bit rough around the edges but I'm finding it so much fun and loving the comparative lack of hand-holding.

Was playing for a while and forgot to save...night time was fast approaching so I started legging it back to a rest area, damn harpy picked me up and threw me off the cliff!!! LOL!

Mid fall towards the sea my pawn was shouting "Make sure you don't get drenched master" or words to that effect...not at all bothered that I was going to die.

I had lost over an hour of playing but it was hilarious! Loving it!

Anyone fancy posting their pawns names on here for hiring?

I'll start I guess.

Gamertag: McSniz
Pawn name: Sansa
Current pawn class: Sorcerer

damn you all to hades  dont get the game till tomorrow /jealous

Are you all on 360 or PS3 ? Performance or resolution issues? e.g. i've heard that the PS3 version is lower res?

good idea about posting pawns DutchSchaeffer :D How bout a pic as well?

Also you know how the pawns you rent/borrow dont level so you have to exchange them yeah? Can you favourite a pawn you liked so that when IT is higher level you can borrow it again?

Hi Surfer,

I'll try to get a pic in a bit! :)

In answer to your questions, I am on the 360 version, installed to hard drive.

The prologue performance wasn't brilliant, with some stutters etc, but once you get into the game proper it is fine.

I would say that whilst the game is saving or when you just enter a new area there is probably a 10 second or so time period where the game is running slower.

You can add pawns to favourites so you can check them out after they have leveled up.

Sometimes you will find that the player whose pawn you have borrowed is also playing the game. If you release a pawn, and check it straight away in the favourites menu, there is a chance they will have gained some levels in the other persons game.

I originally thought that other players pawns were only available when they were offline, this is not the case.

The only limit (as far as I am aware) to how high a level pawn you hire to your party is rift crystal cost. A same level pawn is free, then it increases exponentially the bigger the level gap above you.

I am really pleased with the game, I appreciate it won't be to everyones liking, but its right up my street!

I'll check back to this thread periodically, if you have any more questions, fire away! :D
