What film did you watch last night?

Apparently the author didn't know of Battle Royale, when she wrote the books. Easy to say that I suppose, but on the hand, people can create very similar works, or a design of something without being aware of what the other is doing.

I mean, I've not seen or read Hunger Games, and I'm not doubting her, I mean people have similar ideas all the time, but they seem to be pretty similar and BR has been out for 12 years.

Battle Royale said:
In the future, the Japanese government captures a class of ninth-grade students and forces them to kill each other under the revolutionary "Battle Royale" act.

Hunger Games said:
Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television.

Yes, really. I don't like the film. I will not deny there were good bits in it but overall it was too long and the gun battle after the bank job was way OTT, I know they got Andy McNabb in there to advise but the police shooting off that many rounds into a busy road was ludicrous. Also the way the nice bookshop assistant sticks with De Niro (after only a few days knowing him) after she pretty much finds out he is a serial criminal was poor.

Not a fan. Sorry Vonhelmet.

Ah I see, you were expecting a documentary.

The Guard - 9/10

The wife and I sat down in the knowledge that this was supposed to be an excellent film and it didn't disappoint. In all seriousness, it's hard for a film to stand up strong when you've heard numerous people rave about it. Apprehension usually kills them. But not this.

I watched John Carter.

It wasn't exactly a masterpiece, but it was okay. I don't think it deserved the complete drubbing it got from the media. Sure the basic plot was stupid, the dialogue was simple, and the characters were all idealised cliches of some form or another. But isn't that par for the course with superhero type movies?

I thought it was entertaining enough so long as you don't try to think too hard about it. Certainly no worse than tripe like Clash of the Titans.

The Avengers - was an alright film, not one i'd watch again in a hurry, partly because it didnt have as much Thor in it.

7/10

John Carter - Lot of sacking around, in a good way

7/10

The Raid - Holy ****. Best film i've seen this year.

10/10

Yeah I was expecting carp cos of the bashing but turned out quite decent. Wished I'd seen it in the cinema now >.<

I Saw The Devil

Really really dark film, the rage build-up in the main character is visible right from the start. The fight and ‘action’ scenes are intense and not forgiving of gore and pace and the dialogue is rather superb as well with absolutely brilliant performances from the main cast. I really do love this kind of movie, even more so when it comes from Korea.

Did anyone else expect more stuff to happen at the ending, if you know what I mean? :p

A **** and Bull Story - Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon sparring with each other while tryng to film 'The Life and Opinions of Tristsam Shandy, A Gentleman' was a very enjoyable watch, completely bonkers in places but worked for me. 4/5

Ah, thought it might star it out.

Dark Shadows , 6/10 , maybe 7/10 for Johnny Depp in it.

Not too bad, better than some people had led me to believe, but felt overly drawn out in places and also felt like too much tried to be crammed in at the end. Very burtonesque movie though.

This Means War - 6/10

Reese Witherspoon still has her fresh looks but her chin is still confusing. Overall a pretty average romcom with some light action thrown in for the blokes. I won't be archiving it.
