Stripped down a rig today because flow seemed poor and temps atrocious.

Found this:

i stripped mine down to find my mahems pastel dried on in parts like yellow paint very dissapointed

Id be quite surprised as pastel will only dry up if you remove water e.g it gets pushed into holes and fills the gap. We have been running pastel now in systems for over 3 years (my self and IDC who we work with) and not once seen any build up or drying unless it from primochill of tygon tubing. Its back to the fact that tubing leaches and blocks clog becuase of this leaching effect and then the dye stains the plastersizer.

haha, what coolant and/or additives were you using?

EC6 green non UV

Yeah, unlucky for me I didn't have any crackers to spread it on :p

Yes probably plasticiser leach but as always its hard to tell, could be rubbish in the rad that wasn't quite flushed enough, happened to me twice now, last time it happened was a few years back when I switched to distilled + kill coil, but now that appears to be a big problem with some block manufacturers nickely plating processes :p

Anyhoo, it needed stripping down anyway, flow had got atrocious, but those Aqua Kryos blocks are quite restrictive and it does have 4 of them.

Corrected it for you ;)

OOh tasty gunge, not had any problems with my ek coolant, my nickel ek blocks have stayed perfect. I hope the red they do is just as good as im moving to an RIVE :)

It wasn't just ek that had nickel problems, koolance have had the issue as well over the years, i don't think distilled and silver is the holy grail of fluids that many seem to think.

100% agree.

not all its cracked up to be at all.

i have mayhems pure water and a few drops of biocide and its fine. but lets face it. every fluid combination on the planet has downsides.

Consider the modern day water cooling system a bit like alchemy and you probably as close as you gonna get. EC06 uses the same base as X1, Pastel, Aurora. If you had a sample of it i would love to get it from you for our own purposes though.

Oh dear - that's what I'm using.

Guess it's time to look for a good biocide too...

Mick does the X1 coolant have Biocides pre-mixed in? The info on the OCUk site doesn't list it as having it... though it does list it as being a food additive which is intriguing o.O

Just to clarify would one potentially run the same risk as the OP using Mayhems Ultra Pure H20 Distilled (clear) coolant and say XSPC UV tubing?

Really like to know before I rebuild my TJ07 this weekend!

You want some liquid from the loop? I can oblige, email me via my trust. :)

Something else to consider, my loops tend to run harder and hotter than most it only took a blockage like this to slow the loop flow enough in this rig to cause it to overheat and shut down, but it must have gradually built up and could have been like this for longer than I thought, its just the hot weather made me notice it more because the rig suddenly wouldn't stay on for more than 5 minutes before it overheated.

So I don't know if heat causes more problems with plasticiser leaching or something else. As to tubing type, I've had similar issues with different types of tubing so I'm not sure what the answer is there other than keeping an eye on things and plan on stripping stuff down.

As to the liquid used, I've probably tried most of them except Mahems, and the only thing that reacts badly to Pure distilled + silver coil or biocide seems to be EK nickel plated blocks. Thats just my experience.

Koolance had a problem with some cover screws that were made of the wrong metal once and they corroded, and there may be some isolated incidents, some more related to physical wear than corrosion per-se, but really they don't have anything like the enormous white elephant problem EK are having with nickel blocks and having to use Unicorns Tears<tm> to prevent "issues". :)

Anyway, damned if you do, damned if you don't or it could just be me :)

Well I got to strip down and rebuild my pc this weekend as I am upgrading it think i'll flush all my Rad's out just to check them never hurts to be safe :)
I use EC6 as well
