I'm lagging behind a bit compared to you guys tbh - only in act 2 on Nightmare :p but I was wondering when you start getting anything better than yellow (rare?) drops?

I generally get blue (magic?) against a decent baddie but not many yellow and never had anything better!

Well legendaries are pretty rare, I've found 2 in....a lot of time (about 75-80 hours I think across 3 characters)

I'm lvl60 with one char, lvl30 with another. Have farmed the game to death in certain areas as I'm avoiding AH, and still haven't found a legendary or set item. I'm starting to wonder if they even exist :|

you've kind of semi-answered my question - have you finished inferno without using the AH (buying) at all?

Standing still gets you killed in Inferno. My reccomended build (Wizard in our group uses it to good effect anyway) would be

Ray of frost (Cold Blood) - for single target and any time you can stand and nuke
Blizzard (Snowbound)
Diamond Armor (Crystal Shell)
Hydra (Venom Hydra)
Magic Weapon (force Weapon)
Lastly skill of your choice - he runs between energy armor (Prismatic Armor) and teleport (fracture)

Passives of Blur, Cold Blooded, Astral Presence. Can swap blur for glass cannon I believe if wanted.

Basically stick down blizzard for slow and aoe damage, hydra infront of pack, kite pack through it rinse repeat. Kite Kite Kite until you outgear the Act.

Kiting is pointless, specially in coop

Changing my gear to
Spectual Blade - Deep Cut
with secondary of - Arcane Orb

Frost Nova - Cold Snap
with Meteor - Star Pack

Defence is
Force Armour (Force)
Diamond Skin (Crystal Shell)

and Archon as backup or explosion (chain reaction)

passive : Blur - Evocation - Critical Mass

not even close, stuck on act 1 and very very tempted to buy some stuff. going to be farming hell whimsy over weekend before I give in if I don't get anything useful.

It has been a lot of fun playing without AH, seeing something on the ground and praying that it's any good, but I think I went through about 200 rares yesterday without finding anything close to an upgrade on dps which is only at 9k

Profitssss :D

this makes me sad :( i dont want to use the AH either, the whole fun of these type of games for me is to find all the stuff myself but I'm not entirely sure that's possible. has anyone complete inferno without using the AH?

I'm doing coop with a DH and WD on my Wizard anyway so I've taken the frontline tank approach.

Hell Diablo was a pussy. His regular attack did around 2k (compared to Izual who would hit me for several times that). Done a little of Inferno Act I and regular mobs aren't much of a problem. They do hit hard so I may have to change the Prism rune only without it I can't deal damage for long with Sleet Storm before I run dry. Elites are going to be a serious problem but hopefully I can distract them enough for the other 2 to deal damage.

Jesus Brok, wtf were the stats on that thing? Or did you just find a complete mug.

The loot system will likely only give you about 5 drops from Nightmare upwards that you will actually use as an upgrade. Blizzard have tuned everything in the game to make you need to use the AH. If more people use the AH, more will probably use the RMAH - which is Blizzard's new cash cow. It's a shame really.

Anyone happen to have some spare Tome of Jewelcrafting?

Not sure what the current price is? Alternatively I'll swap 2 Tome's of Jewelcrafting for a Tome of Secrets xD

So how did the first people to do Inferno do it then, if it wasn't possible ;)

There's not possible, there's possible but hard work & there's barely possible and a chore. All are subjective views, but of course it's possible.

they used abilities that have now been nerfed. Go on, knock yourself out, try to finish inferno without using the AH..

Going by what people have said... they got through by abusing Force Armour and Smoke Screen before they were changed and of course, by dying a lot and skipping tons of stuff. Don't think any Barbs/Monks got through without tagging along with Wiz/DH/WD.

The first people used class/specs which were overpowered and thus did not need to upgrade gear first. Other people have obtained gear by taking advantage of goblins/resplendent chest spawns who's spawn rate has since been Nerfed.

It is theoretically possible to just farm an act and wait for the right drops, but the drop rate is just so low to get the right combination of stats it make the AH a very tempting proposition (exactly what blizz wants)

Finished Nightmare with my Barb, just bought some new gear to try Hell, do I stand a chance?

1. Exploits and bugs
2. Played in a group so they traded
3. Played 16-20hrs a day.

After the patches now that most exploits are gone id say its nearly impossible to finish inferno as a solo player without using AH. Not without farming 16hrs a day for half year.

I'm really starting to struggle. Got a lvl 56 wizard going through Act 2 on Hell difficulty. A lot of the rare mobs are starting to chew me apart with ridiculous ease. I'm trying to find a balance between having enough health and doing enough damage and I'm not sure I'm succeeding.

shame really - where's the longevity if you can buy all the gear you need? is it also true that they manipulate the drop rates? or is that conspiracy time?

Go for dmg over hp, i'm running around inferno on my wiz with 13k HP. :P

Just got to the part in act2 where you face a bunch of those snake guys in the palace, impossible I tell you. Theres about 20 of them and no where to run.
