...I'll wait for a more reliable source. That would pretty much confirm that Kagawa would be stuck on left wing or CM though, no chance we'd play one striker with 4/5 strikers really.

I have to agree, I can't see Levy letting Modric go for any less than £40m, being a year older and having a year less on his contract won't matter a jot to Levy.

There's only so many years you can have in the league without setting it alight, and reach a certain age before no one would ever pay that much for a player.

He's too old and yet again failed to have a fantastic season, there is basically no potential left, he is not a £40mil player, likewise the player can still push harder to leave than he did last season.

We had an offer for £32 mil for Henry iirc, yet he left a year later for £16mil, same goes for Vieira, and quite a lot of other players. A case of, I'll stay an extra year, I'll stay to help you get champs league, if we miss it you let me go easier. Players have made these deals in the past and from all the talk last year and this year, Levy has made such promises to Modric and, was it Ekotto, I can't remember who the other player who said it recently was.

In other words last season they could have gotten 30mil for Modric but they took a gamble, asked him to stay another season and hoped they'd get champs league football. Gamble failed, stating for fact Levy wouldn't let him go for less is simply wrong as we've seen it happen before.

Ultimately he's not the player Spurs need, they have defensive midfielders covered, they lacked on SO many occasions last year a dynamic midfielder to run into the box, more like Lampard, especially in the system they played with only one striker. So often they needed a midfielder to get to the edge of the box and score goals. 80+ shots I think he had, 4 goals, Spurs need a goal scoring central midfielder, they have Modric.

They'd do well to sell him and get a player they need more, same goes with VDV, he's not good enough defensively/workrate wise to play in midfield, and he's not good enough offensively to play upfront, playing in between just doesn't suit the team.

With the wingers they have, pure speed and great power on one side, they are perfectly suited to a 4-4-2 with 2 real strikers, a proper DM(of which they have one of the best in the league, and another decent one) and a more lampard style central midfielder.

That Chelsea offer was a once in a lifetime offer and Spurs were mental not to take it, especially considering how much Modric wanted to leave. They will not get offered that type of money again, it was absurd even by Chelsea standards

It wasn't meant to be taken as fact dm, it's an opinion and nothing more. I agree he's not worth £40m but it's Levy, I don't see him turning down £40m one season and then accepting anything less the season after. They probably won't get another offer that high so I think he's likely to stay.

i agree with most of this apart from the age thing, he's 26, you wont see his best for another 2 years, pace is not part of his game so it doesn't really matter when it drops off, he will be more intelligent and stronger.

we should've cashed in last year and bought someone who will be a menace in the area, a striker and cb. we don't really need his creative passes with two wingers and walker as it's not the way we play.

sandro is showing promise and parker is highly reliable.

be interesting to see how this pans out but levy will drive a hard price.

Interesting that about Lewandowski. I think he'd be a great buy, especially if Berbatov leaves. He has Hernandez's poaching instincts and Welbeck's finesse (got it, some of you don't like Welbeck, bore off ;)), and him and Kagawa have a good understanding.

It kind of puts the idea that Fergie might use 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 to bed though. I can't see Rooney dropping back and I wouldn't want to see Kagawa on the left. Still I'd rather have someone like Lewandowski available to us than not, providing he doesn't cost too much.

Kagawa and Lewandowski were key to Dortmunds title last season so it would be great to have the pair at united. Any team that beats Bayern Munich to the title and domestic cup can't be too bad.

I should add that, logically thinking, I don't see how we'll sign Lewandowski unless he's cheap-ish for some reason.

So this is quite surprising if true, but I suspect the coach may have been trying to demonstrate the quality of his team rather than reveal anything.

He'll cost well over £20m for starters!

Kagawa scored again for Japan today:

Man Utd doing some decent business so far.

Yet to see the **** deals we will do.
(Bar selling Dirk at a retarded price.)

We've only signed Kagawa, dont believe the other stories ;)

Would love to see both Lewandowski and Modric sign but I cant see either happening unfortuantly. In Lewandowski's case I'm fairly certain Dortmund said he wasn't for sale and the negative side of signing him is how it would hamper the development of Welbeck and Hernandez, In Modric's case I just cant see us spending the money it would take to bring him to the club (not given his age)

Awful defending to be fair... :P

Because he is nothing special at Spurs (IMHO).

I could imagine it turning into your version of Charlie Adam.

I don't think he's that bad. :p

He's nothing flashy, but he's a lot more like Scholes than anyone else we have so I wouldn't complain. He controls the game from midfield.
