I saw it on road.cc. It's just daft; ignoring the concept of personal responsibility in the quest for cash.

The Strava Ts&Cs have a paragraph in genuine block capitals along the lines of:

IF YOU STACK IT INTO A TREE THIS IS NOT OUR FAULT.

Well, I am writing this from the side of the road after a second puncture! I was just sitting here on the bike calling someone and suddenly there's a massive hiss and the backs gone flat.:/

So, spec me!

Tyres are currently Michelin Dynamic Sports - 23 - 622 (700 x 23C), front inner tube I have no idea, rear one is a specialised something or other.

Are there any better tyres for not getting punctures? Better inner tubes? I'd like slick tyres, and I'm not worried if they're heavier, just so long as I don't get punctures! What about those gooey tubes?

Thanks for any help.:)

P.s, don't send out the ocuk rescue party, the gf is on her way!!

**Update on the Newcastle to Paris bike ride**

I finished on Sunday evening at the Eiffel Tower with four other riders in the lead group.

Total distance covered was 605 miles, at an average pace of 18.14mph.
33 hours and 21 minutes spent riding with 25825 feet of climbing.
So far over £15000 raised for Cancer Research UK.

Weather was more or less perfect for 6 out of 7 days - we got rained on for probably 10 minutes in total. On the first day in France we had a 20mph headwind so that slowed our average right down to 16.6mph and made for a tough day!

We had one slow puncture whilst riding over le Somme (me), and 2 low speed crashes with no serious injuries or bike damage (not me).

The French drivers were incredibly respectful, and would often come close to running other drivers off the road in an effort to give us enough space.

Special mention goes to the people of Clermont who were out on the streets for a motorbike rally (must have been 3-4000 of them driving through the village) who shouted and cheered "Allez, allez, allez" as we climbed up the hill after the motorbikes. :D

Happy to answer any questions people have - definitely recommend it. Riding in France is epic.

Weird, I thought it was very high or something wrong with his gear.
I run at between 14 and 16 kph and only hit 140.

Running is a bit different tbh. You don't happen to run at 14 and 16 kph on a running machine do you? Very different repeating the same on the road for any amount of time.

EDIT: InsomniaCalls, that looks like an amazing trip, congratulations! That's a hell of an average speed to cover that distance.

Ex marathon runner so I knew exactly what my heart rate was on the roads.
I was running at 18kph tonight for small bursts and still not hitting 170 although I was very knackered after 5K.
I have a nagging doubt that when I do get my bike that I'll ever get out of my aerobic zone no matter how fast I go.

No offence, but aren't you the fat bald guy who wears a flat cap and screams down a microphone?

Get out on your bike on a 10%+ hill and your heart will be coming out of your chest by the top :p

An ex Scottish champ runner uses our shop and says it's completely different riding a bike.

Everybody hurts going up a climb on a bike no matter who you are imo!(you just go up it faster, or something)
