Advice on body work

Troll is troll. I'm sure you'll get banned one of these days. From what I've seen of responses to many of your posts, you're not very popular. You've been here 5 minutes, talk absolute ******** and probably haven't even spent a penny at OcUK.

Stop bringing your nonsensical drivel in to other threads. I posted here with my advice and opinions. You came in here and started baiting me. So if you intended to derail this guys thread congratulations you have single handedly done that. Well done.

I know I shouldn't apologize but sorry hk3948, I will refrain from posting in your thread again as I feel no matter what I post Merlin will post back some more drivel. I hope you get your car fixed but dont feel like you have to pay a premium. Just find a reputable guy who can do the work.

I'm not baiting you at all. I was just agreeing with Janesy B. Seems to me you enjoy trolling more than helping anyway. Here's another incredibly valuable post by you.

Notice how most others in that thread offered some advice. What was YOUR point in posting there? It was the networking forum where people want help, not GD.
I'm out, cba to get into an argument with you, you're not worth my time anymore. :)

Well. This got very heated very quickly. Wasn't expecting that

Think part of the issue is that you could argue that I 'know' the approved guys are likely to do a reliable decent job. On the other hand, its pretty difficult to build a sense of repute about an independant workshop unless I know people who have had a positive experience. In this case, I do not know anyone who has had bodywork in Bristol. I just wonder about the quality of work and I guess I was just wondering if people felt that the processes involved in this repair would be pretty standard fair across the board, in which case if I could make a significant saving it may be worth looking around quickly first

I haven't spent a penny at OCUK - should I be banned?

IMO reputation is everything when getting paint work done as its all down to the skill of the person doing it that determines the quality, for a 9 day old TTS I would not go down the cheap route.when its done get some pics up, like the new TTS.

Take it to Audi. £500 is not expensive really considering it is Audi.

You will also have a receipt so when you come to sell it and if you so incline and disclose this information, it is done from the people you got to car from and it is back its best from the "best" place possible.

It the name as well as the quality of work. A bit like servicing, you want to take your new TTS to Audi for its service, at least to begin with so not only it looks good, you also know they use Audi Parts and have all the tools to do the job properly. But if you are buying a 10 years old TT then having it service at a indy who specialises in Audi isn't going to make a great deal, if any, difference to the value of the car for not having an official stamp.

Take it to Audi, it is a 10 days old TTS!

Sorry guys. My bad, probably should have phrased it better. I've owned the car for 9 days but its a 59 plate. Don't think that would make too much of a difference to what has been said already though.
thunk I'm going to likely go Audi, like many have said it will be peace of mind and reassurance

Ok it's really bugging me when people say "take it to Audi" :p

It's not "Audi", it's an "Audi approved" bodyshop. This is for YOUR peace of mind, other than that it's irrelevant to whoever's buying your car in a few years time or whatever.

As said in my previous post, when I had a VW a few years ago I took it to a VW approved bodyshop to get a wingmirror replaced. The receipt had no mention of the bodyshop being "VW approved", it just looked like a receipt from a normal independent bodyshop. I doubt this "Audi approved" bodyshop will have Audi stamped on their headed paper/receipt either.

Shortly after I replaced my wingmirror, the bodyshop changed it's company name and was no longer a "VW approved" bodyshop. So does this mean they no longer do a good job just because they changed their name/management and no longer manufacturer approved? No.

Anyway my point is, it doesn't have to be labelled as "approved" for them to do a good job. It's for your peace of mind, but if you don't know any other reputable bodyshops out there then yes go with this approved bodyshop. £500 seems pretty damn cheap anyway.

/rant.

Kid at a big approved workshop in a rush to get onto the next job versus one man band independent who's been making a living for 30 years from reputation alone

Better go approved because the paint experts (read an article once) say so

get quotes , compare reputations/reviews , chat to the guys who will be doing the work. Dont just jump in because they are 'approved'
