Yep you need 6k+ armor.I am at 8.7k buffed and I struggle sometimes in act3.
I really hate how giving away things for free is no longer a part of Diablo. I've given away a couple of things worth a fair bit to some Overclockers but that's due to the general friendliness people had in D2 (first time you'd go online with a new character people usually drop you loads of stuff). With the AH (both gold and real money) this part of the game barely exists anymore because people would rather cash in.
me too - and even worse I now have broken armour and 3k in money !!! oh dear
was fine until the open plains then getting absolutely absolutely nowhere

more armor u folks say, i spent 1.5mil just getting my resists up, extra armour on top of that is going to cost a bomb >.<
Bought Diablo 3 from battlenet for the crazy price of £45, played it through act 1 to the skeleton boss and killed him at the end it says something like "thanks for playing the starter edition to carry on you must activate diablo3". I've already paid £45 for it, whats it on about?

It can take up to 72 hours for your purchased to be verified... Madness I know...

You can try changing your battlenet password to a much stonger one as people have reported it sometimes works for them,

Not really, you're just trying too hard with the other stats. It shouldn't cost you that much to get hold of a few pieces of armour with all res, 1 res you want to stack and maybe some dex OR vit. If all else fails. Try to get all res/one res/armour and sod the other stats on a couple of pieces. They should be going pretty cheap.
Otherwise, swap to a 1H + Shield
I'm enjoying my Witch Doctor a lot more now. Browsed the AH and got her some mana regen gear on knife, offhand and helm and I'm up to about 42 regen now. Once I hit 40 I'm gonna try out the 4 cooldown = 300% regen passive. Acid Rain ftw

yeh, im looking @ the auction house atm, most pieces are either dex or life, with the all res+ 1 res + armour stats, so its either life or dps i have to sacrifice on each item.
oh and no way im going sword and board on a monk, daibo ftw!
The best way to play Monk is a 1hander and a shield. Going +Crit chance is the way to go.
Dual wielding is viable if you can muster up enough DPS and have over 2APS.
Doesn't sound like you have the gear to get away with the extra damage you'll take as 2H. You might have to swap to 1H + Shield or do a bit more farming of act 1 till you get some more money/gear.
Looking back you said you had 21k dps. Is that the max you can get when fully buffed? I'm not really sure what sort of survivability the Monk has vs a Barbarian but with my 6400 armour (w/ War Cry and Enchantress) and ~700 all res I could reach around 33k dps fully buffed and around 80k with Wrath of the Berserker, plus Ignore Pain for damage reduction/healing which is the only reason I managed to take down the majority of elites/champs I came across.
