Love that last one Rojin, the eyes just 'pop', good expression too!

I was lent against the kitchen worktop as my mum went past holding my niece, so I've got the sunlight through the window lighting my niece with the usual indoor lighting in the background (tungsten). I did correct the white balance but I preferred it with the contrasting orange glow in the background and blue eyes :)

Hi guys,

Picked up a 1000D today with 18-55 lens and a Sigma DG lens 70-300mm 1:4-5.6. Ive never really taken anything photo wise with a proper camera. Most, if not all of my photos have been via a phone. Ive added three photos ive taken which im after a bit of advice on, what I should be adjusting to get a better shot? Also, with indoor shots im stuggling with the lighting, what settings should I be adjusting? Any advice is much appreciated!

For the outdoor shots remember what you are trying to focus on. Use single point focus and aim for the eyes as thats the first thing people look at. The first shot of the dog you did would be great if the eyes were the focal point instead of the nose.

As for indoors, you need to open the aperture (lower the F number) whilst raising the ISO to try and get to a balance where you can hand hold the camera for normal shots of people and pets, otherwise for static objects, use a tripod with longer shutter speeds and lower iso to gain better quality images.

Had a quick go at some street photography...

Nice to see some street shots that aren't B&W for a change. The pigeon one, the doubled up shot of the short haired guy with the canon strap and the etched stone and the guy sat on the steps are all pretty nice shots. The rest don't do much for me though, especially the first which is a proper marmite shot if I've ever seen one :P

Sort of like them. I like how you have your own processing style and I knew it was you, but I don't know why I like the gritty street style shots better :P

When did you go to Birmingham ?
Today, I'm friends with a Chinese guy who I second shot my first wedding with. He moved to a new studio so I went to check it out and later went for a stroll around town. I'm planning a photography trip to Taiwan at some point to do some landscapes and portraits, and hopefully some of the aboriginal tribes. So it's handy to know someone who can speak Mandarin.

Thanks mate, tbh I understand what you mean about gritty street shot's, but it's just not my style. I'm the sort of guy that would choose a rom com (even though I'm bored of them) over a psychological thriller...

Sounds excellent!

That's the best Nikon/Canon metaphor ever! ;) :D
