^^ nice pictures - didn't even know where this was when you posted - it's only about 20 miles from me!

Yep we've been in Irvine now for 3 years and this was our first visit to Portencross. I only found out about it when I saw a shot I liked in Flickr and looked it up.

Good photo but I think it lacks 'punch'.
I've just had a rough go on my iPad - see what you think:

Might be a bit overdone, can't get ysed to iPad editing! But hope it gives you an idea.

Andrew

I agree a little punch is needed, but IMO your edit is a little too much.

Try taking the photo at. Different time of day but otherwise wise it is quite nice.

Nothing of beauty as such but a great Airy Disk!
laseronthefence.png

The laser is an oval in beam but, bounced off a piece of paper on the fence at the end of the garden. 910mm fl Vixen A80Mf with a Titan cooled CCD camera attached (think sensitive). The artificial star is showing the "point spread function". The peaks and troughs of the disk peaks can be seen by the consecutive rings from the centre point.

^^^ That is actually very interesting. Was there in particualr reason you wanted to do this, or was it your inner geek?

Its interesting that the major axis of the ellipsoid is not showing an obvious PSF behavior with troughs?

That hadn't escaped me either.. the major axis is a lot weaker (playing with the values shows some wrap-around but not as much as you'd expect. The image is actually about 100 images stacked and when looking at single images it's still far weaker. The reason is todo with having to create some raw data for image processing ideas around PSFs.

Low light photography again.. through glass without a flash using the trusty Cannon IXUS. A curse scrawled in lead..

I like that edit, do you mind telling me how you did it? I'm trying to get the buildings to stand out a bit more

Thanks, I would have preferred clearer skys myself

I used Snapseed on my iPad. Mainly played around with the saturation and contrast settings and what was called 'drama'.

Think the same could be achieved in Lightroom or similar with levels and curves etc. i might play around with a graded filter on the sky to darken the exposure in that area.

I have a very unscientific method of fiddling until I like the image :)

For me the clouds are OK as they add interest and texture.

^^ You really need to stamp that copyright logo all over them?

They are nice pictures, 1 and 2 (to much hay bale in 3 & 4), don't think you need to worry about people stealing them...........
