What film did you watch last night?

Zack Snyder's Dawn Of The Dead - 10/10

This is such a well made, powerful yet discredited movie.

They just hit the nail on the head and got it right. It's awesomeness was single handedly responsible for kick starting the zombie industry back into existence. Directly giving birth to Shaun Of The Dead, Left4Dead, and so many more phenomenal zombie goodies.

actually George A. Romero is the father of zombie movies and the guy who most inspired pegg and wright. they decided to make shaun of the dead from the spaced episode (before the zack snyder movie). its an interesting zombie movie for sure with much more intimidating and fast zombies but zombies arent supposed to be fast. its the slow always increasing amount of enemies that make zombies. that element of inevitability that they will get you in the end via sheer numbers.

Not only is George A Romero the zombie king, but Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead is literally a remake of Romero's film of the same name. And that film didn't inspire Shaun of the Dead... SotD was released the same year.

Watched 'Across The Universe' the other night for the first time in a few years. It may not be a good film but the songs are great. It's a Beatles musical if people haven't heard of it.

6/10

Oh and '40 Year Old Virgin'. Love that film. 9/10

I'm not going in expecting an Alien prequel as I already know it's at least 2 further films away from being that. I'm going in for the visual awe and the early story side of things to the saga!

Regardless of it being an Alien film, it's (IMO) played out too fast, just throws a lot in your face and it's generally rushed.
Also a few of the characters are just terrible.

Just don't get your hopes up.

It does however look great!

Black Hawk Down, 9/10

Missus had never seen it - she's into military\politics\war etc as that's her job. She enjoyed it although thought it was a bit sad\depressing, but I just liked it for the great documentation of war and a pretty botched mission.

Went to see MIB3 yesterday (too hot not to sit in an air-conditioned room despite 3D and the wrong aspect-ratio for the screen) 6/10

It's a fun film, minimal dross of character development, good action and paced right (so it was short and fun). Terrible music tune all the way though frustrated me (like Beverly Hills cop tune but less cool).

X Men: First Class - 6/10 Fassbender playing a Polish Jew with an irish accent. He seems to completely give up hiding it by the end of the film. Always makes me laugh that in all the X Men films with Mystique she's all "I'm angry with everyone because my natural colour is blue" yet manages to be one of the hottest characters in the series (IMO anyway)

To paraphrase eddie murphy

"If the bitch is blue then there's something wrong with the pussy"
