*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

According to TechRadar another high street retailer has confirmed it is getting stock on 27/7. Don't know if this means anything for the places many of us have already pre-ordered from but I am sceptical that anybody will get one until after the 19th.

The 8gb is £159, i ordered the 16gb from a retailer for £189. £30 for an extra 8gb isn't cheap but imo it is ok.

You can only get the 8gb from Google, who charge £9.99 postage. So it's only £20 cheaper than the £189 Currys 16gb one. That's why I cancelled the 8gb plus the amount of useable space you'll be left with out of that 8gb will be next to useless for me.

He has said you need the MicroUSB that is rounded not square like the nokia ones. There around £2 on the auction site.

Just need the actual tablet now!

Wow i didn't even think of being able to plug in a usb flash drive with a micro usb to host usb cable, doe's this require software modding of a shipping nexus 7?Or is it just as simple as buying a usb drive and the cable?

I was ooing and arring about buying one of these when i knew it only had 8gb of storage,if i wanted the 16 gb (which really isn't enough as i want to be able to put 720p video/movies on this thing) it comes to £200 so doesn't seem so cheap then.

But the fact you can buy a 64gb flash drive for around £25 makes this a must buy for me now.Glad i come to overclockers every now and again to get the buzz on whats going on in the tech world :D

It's £199.99 at Currys?

My network at work goes external in the US, so any tablet connected to the network defaults to the US Play store (also useful for signing up to Play Music!) If I first use my Nexus at work, will I get the free stuff offered to US customers (assuming eligibility when not buying direct from Google)? Is this better than the UK?

Skype, Google Video chat..... It's not the nineties any more, a camera does more stuff than just take pictures.

yeah but how many people in the uk do video calling? and then take into account most people who do probably use a laptop with webcam or similar setup compared with those using a mobile phone or tablet. I think its a shame video calling hasn't taken off but i suppose i can understand why as really you just want to talk or briefly text someone instead of holding your phone out infront of you and having to show the other person your face and talking to them. Seems like hassle.

Yes it seems daft to use it when you just want to get your point over to someone with a phone call but for people who live long distance from family and friends it certainly ads something more to the conversation to see someone face to face so to speak that you wouldn't normally otherwise be able too.

It can have it's uses but weather or not it's useful to you is another matter,to me it definitely is as i travel quite a lot and it feels better to be able to see someone when your speaking to them then just a voice.

Also another point about the camera being of a low resolution and quality, that can actually be a good thing if someone doesn't have the best wi-fi connection,i'm not sure how ios and facetime on apple devices handles bandwidth but streaming less data over a lower resolution camera also has it's advantages,i'd rather have a lower quality cam that actually streams smoothly then one that is HD quality but yet stutters or cuts off every now and again.

Exactly a HD camera would be great but how many wifi connections would be able to upload that quality of data, excluding VM and Infinity.

Uhm, it gets used every day in modern businesses. Long distance video calls are cheaper than using the phone, need I go on?

As I said it's not the nineties.

And this camera technology isn't in the 90s either. People need to stop looking at megapixels as a measure of quality.

I just noticed my Galaxy Nexus has a 1.3MP front facing camera. I know you cant always compare like for like but the Galaxy Nexus does actually record at 720p.

Just took this video. It's not all that bad imo.

1.2mp is hd as far as webcams go, I'm interested to know if you can do video chat at that res.
