Whos staying on Win7 and whos going to Win8?

ill wait for either win8 sp1 or win9 and let the guinea pigs sort out all the problems first.

Whether you love it or hate it I cannot see this first Metro OS to be a big seller - maybe when 9 comes out and we've all seen the light will most people who have a choice in upgrading do so

Only for noobs using very old hardware, personally Vista is my second favourite OS right after Win7,remember what 7 is based on yes Vista, funny how a lot of people forget that, btw I used it from day one and only issues I had were some companies not getting their drivers sorted, however once that was done no issues.

Erm, no. Vista is still a pig on my machine. It had lots of major problems.

Btw I used Vista for gaming and beta games testing again no OS issues.

Vista FUD was spread on net by a lot of people that don't know what they are talking about and die hard XP users fact.

LoL! It was not a fact. Lots of things dramatically improved after SP1. I got more benefits out of SP2. But I suffered a lot of the atikmdag problems big time before SP1. MS released a few patches for it after SP1 which cured it for me. It was really rotten.

Oh and copying files, before SP1. Painful. *maniac laugh*

I'll tell you what is a fact, Vista is a hard drive grinder. Windows 7 does not sit away grinding and grinding away while idle.

Vista's explorer still suffers a lot of not responding windows to this day that eventually responds again after a minute or two. And it doesn't take much to trigger that.

I will probably switch to windows 8 if its not that expensive. I have 3 PC's on my home network so can't afford to buy it 3 times if its expensive.

I never had any serious issue with that problem, some very minor ones but had minor ones in Win7 as well (my current OS).
I already said Win7 is my favourite OS so preach somewhere else, as to your link had to laugh since that was an early driver when Vista had only just been out for awhile,oh and I did use an AMD/ATI card with Vista for years back then, drivers issues were fixed, you can't keep blaming early driver issues on Vista.

End of the day no OS is perfect and you will always find some users finding faults in ANY OS,that goes for XP,Win7,Win8 as well as Vista, even Linux.
End of the day Vista was not as bad as some people make out,I did not use it for 3+ years for nothing.

Getting back on topic should be interesting to see how well or bad Win8 does compared to Win7,I think main problem will be many users getting use to Metro ,its a big change for average user, especially desktop user.

I'll probably keep one PC on Win7,one on Win8 and the other on Linux :) .

win 7 still strong and great stuff so if win 8 offer cheaper i may upgrade but i think i skip and wait few more years for win 9 as it usual every three to five years time frame.. maybe best to keep win 7 and save some money for three years time to get full upgrade like processor, ram,etc.. if u format hdd then feel like start again to reinstall some of yer software like games,etc... see what the price comes when it release into online store. i may buy piledriver for amd fx instead of windows 8... find out the review once the release of os is come out and comapre to win 7

this is said to be costing $40 for the upgrade to those using the existing preview - that's half what I paid to get Windows 7. no doubt later it will go to whatever turns out to be full price which will be quite a lot more. That's why I going with it.

I am no fan of Metro, though there are one or two apps I might use, but of the money it does update the platform and Windows 9 is likely going to look the same as 8 (more or less) so we might as well get used to it I suppose. I don't want to get stuck like XP users today, with an old OS so that's why I'm upgrading,

This is what i'm going for, with the inclusion of a Metro style interface for server 2012 shows there intent of going the whole hog with it.

I can't use windows 8 without getting annoyed at how different it is so I have to stay on windows 7 until a game or piece of hardware I have or buy will not work optimally unless I get windows 8. Microsoft are going to need to cripple windows 7 compatibility by bribing people to stop developing for it before I'll need to switch.

Actually if someone were to release a hacked iso including a rebuilt GUI and frontend with a start menu and no metro I would buy an official licence and activate the custom iso with it. Custom isos were all the rage with xp so I hope this happens as there is a lot more people wanting this changed!

Good heavens, if you just click on the desktop app, it's practically identical to Win 7. ;)

That's the main problem for myself and others. It's an App now, it's not the default load in option. That's annoying.

Yes you might enjoy it and metro, but other do not and have the choice to stay with W7.

Right. You dare upgrade to Windows 8 and I'll come round and smack you over the head with the disc. :D

It should have been the other way round, Metro should be the app for god's sake.

How did OS interfaces end up so dull? in 2012. I thought things were suppose to reach a stage it would be futuristic. Not Microsoft's take on a glorified, or rather a supposedly glorified classic. Now it's all bland 2D stuff that sometimes looking at it you would think we were back to 16bit colours because that's all that could be made back in that time. Remember the push back in the day for 32bit transparent icons... everything was to be 3D. Nicely crafted.

Or is it just the cheapness setting in? so don't have to pay skilled people making lovely interfaces for them. Like the Icon Factory hired and made the icons for XP and Vista/Win7 which are technically the same.

They're trying to get back to basics. All this lovely whiz-bang graphic stuff eats the batteries apparently. That's why Aero is being sent to the grave.
