You put too much on, that's why it ran, you only need half a rice grain for under the lid maybe even less, if you put too much on just use a small bit of kitchen roll and remove it in one direction each time till it looks flat. Try not to get any on the pcb area around the chip as its a bitch to remove...
As soon as you start cutting with the blade your warranty is gone anyway
