Hell!! \m/
This isn't to show off that people have millions. :P

but in general how old are people and how much do they have saved? Would say over £50k be decent (need a car) but living with family and pay £20/week I am still 22 yr old (ow! 23 now). I've done college but never uni, I need to stop blowing money stupidly and concentrate on saving. Need to get my money counted up really have most in ISA (sucks nowadays)

SO in general what would you say people need to live life on?

Going by earnings? I'd say location is kind of important. I earn £14k and am living ok, bills are paid but I'm not managing to save anything, but that may be down to me being terrible with money. I did see in another thread that someone was on £30k and struggling because they lived in London (I'm in Somerset).

Sooooooo you want to know how much people have in the bank or how much people spend on living expenses??
Well a month bills food petrol and small treats £1500 as to how much is in the bank that's a secret.

More about the totals people have saved :D

I had over £50K at one point, sadly over the years I blew £20k-£30k - I've still earned too so £30k ish but I need to check. For someone whos 22 that's fairly deceent though right?

At 22 to have £50K you wither musta inherited some or I want to know what job you do to manage that? :D:D:D

That's a very different question to how much do people have saved which is what you appeared to be asking before. Living your life and having savings aren't necessarily interrelated - having savings will put you in a more comfortable position should you encounter a finance related problem normally but you don't always need them to just get on with life.

There are quite a few other threads where people have listed their salaries/jobs so if you just want to find out roughly what some people earn then they're available. Location/commitments/aspirations etc will all factor into whether the amounts earned make the people earning them happy.

I'd rather not say in public.

I actually agree its a very personal thing to ask. A mortgage to me isn't saying a lot as you haven't said any other figures, Also do people think that way of thinking depends on age? for example my grandparents would never reveal anything related to money even the cost of a TV.
Where younger generations don't seem to bother about revealing how much they spent on trainers or bikes.

Here's what the median "household" looks like (from the period 2006/2008 anyway - almost certainly changed significantly now!):

UK_Assets_2007.jpg

Property = £95,000
Pension = £29,000
Possessions = £24,000
Savings = £5000
Car = £5000 (average car's age = 7 years)

Debt = £2700

Total = £160,000

(all figures are approx. and taken from ONS)

My analysis of these figures = too much in property, not enough in savings, too much in possessions.

Two of us in a new 2 bed flat - £1100 all bills + car paid for a month. Rest spending money.

Standard of living is fine, can afford holidays abroad, meals out every week, cinema ect.

I joined a fast-paced commission-based City job as I left university at 22. By 24 I'd saved up what I'd consider a very decent amount. Quit the job and went on a four month bender in The US and blew most of it. Figured I could always save money in the future, but I'd never have as few responsibilities as I did then. Nowt point saving money when you've not got any plan for its use, especially when you can spend it on having fun whilst you're still able! :)

You posted a thread to ask if £50k savings for somebody who is 22 is 'decent right?'?

And people are actually taking it seriously and not seeing it for the ridiculous thread it is? It's even more pathetic than the 'Hi guys, I have a Triple SLI GTX 680 system with a Core i7 and 16gb ram, is this spec good enough to play BF3' threads in GH.

You know very well that being able to save up £50,000 after tax and expenses after just 4 years of work is exceptional.

You are looking for people to tell you how awesome you are, which is pretty sad IMHO.

Infact actually are you not the guy who has posted about being out of work and posted that string of totally bizarre threads in Motors about your 106?

I call BS.

What do you plan to do with the savings,or are you going to add to it till your like 60 then have a million sitting there,you die being a scrooge then the government gets a good chunk of it:confused::confused::confused::confused:

When I see threads like this all I see is "social engineering".

Questions asking for people to give personal information such as; histories, employment, value, banks, wives, pets, pictures to see whether they are worth the trouble of hacking or defrauding, whilst potentially equipping them with some of the tools they need to do the crime (passwords, secrets, ID etc.).

I am surprised how many people have been willing to respond to these type of threads and I wonder if any have painted a complete picture for the opportunists on the web?

Tony I'm sure that wasn't your intention, but do you see the problem?

Got about 19k in the bank. Give or take a few 100. Save around 1500 a month after all expenses. Although, been dating a lot the past 2 months so haven saved that much :(. Also own 50% of a house that's worth about 300k. No mortgage on it either. So yea, I do ok.

If the slips at ATMs are anything to go by, most people are just surviving.

Edit.

I'm 32 if it matters.
