Is Britain becoming overrun by the Qashqai?

My step brother nine kids (dont get me started) got one (dont get me started) on mobility

Not heard? They did a VERY limited run (think there were two!) Juke with the GTR engine and running gear.

Imagine a 19 year olds wetdream but not ugly.

Hadn't heard and after after a quick Google I still can't believe it. 545bhp

Not sure I agree on the not ugly front though!

forgive me for sounding dumb.

what criteria must you meet to qualify for a vehicle on a mobility scheme?
also, is there a significant discount applied by manufacturer/dealerships or does it work like a government grant?

I'm having a hard time understanding why there is so many of them still. I can appreciate people like the image of them or see them as safe but surely there are better alternatives?

seeing so many of them on a daily basis, I can't imagine there are that many people with disabilities etc that would require/choose this vehivle

You must be in receipt of the higher rate of Disability Living Allowance.

Motability is infact the UK's largest vehicle fleet operator. They obtain discounts from manufacturers and if you qualify for a vehicle you swap your DLA for a car. You don't get both. You pay extra if the car you want costs more than the base rate.

The government does not fund Motability.

I also disagree that the reason for so many is entirely down to Motability - I doubt very much if it is.

ah ok, that makes more sense now.
But I am still at a loss as to why someone without outside funding dictating vehicle choice would go for this car.

There just doesn't seem to be any other redeeming features for it. certainly nothing that stands out as being the key factor for its explosion in popularity

There must be something good about it otherwise no one would have one.

The fact you don't understand it proves it's not a car that appeals to you or probably most on here.

But to the joe public it obviously does.

I understand that it does have a redeeming feature that makes it popular.

I am as yet no more knowledgeable about what has caused the popularity

I have highlighted that I am unaware what this is in the original post as this is the best way to create threads from my experience

I asked the question on an Internet forum so that I could get answers from other people with different views to my own. This tactic has worked well for me in the past.

:)

If your in the market for a nearly new or new car at this price point it makes sense to me. Definitely more about them than a focus, Astra or their Mpv variants surely. Sure you could spend the money on an older more prestige vehicle but that's not the point to the majority.

To clarify further - its the higher rate of the mobility component that somebody needs to get in order to qualify.

Getting the high rate for the care component of Disability Living Allowance doesn't bring any entitlement to make use of the motability scheme, its the mobility element that is key.

I see 400+ most days but then I do work for Nissan and to be quite honest, I'm really glad they are so popular because it keeps me in a job :D btw, they are not just very popular in this country, they are popular all over the world.

There's one directly opposite me at home. Every morning when I'm pulling out it makes me want to just smash into so hopefully they get something different!

After seeing this thread I've been on the look out for Qashqais during every daily commute.

On a 25 mile motorway run to work I see on average 5. However, I give up counting the amount of new shape Corsas I see. It's actually unreal.

Must be an entirely different scenario up here. After my 25 mile journey home last night, I lost count after 32. Every second car on my street is a Corsa, also.
