*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

It does make me wonder if Tom ever took a mirror and used it to reflect half of his face - imagine the panic when he finds his face isn't perfectly symmetrical.. :eek:or finds his ears are slightly unlevel

Nothing is perfect. Its why we have mechanics to fix cars, doctors to fix people and so on..

Tom talks like the people with problems is the majority, whereas in fact it's obviously the minority. If you go scouring the internet for people with problems with a device, guess what your going to find people with problems with the device.

For someone who was so worried about getting this nexus 7 I'm surprised he went out and got one from a high street store when a few people in the thread mentioned the safest bet was Play store for a problem free device as they had apparently sent back their faulty first batch.

Mine is 8 hours old now and working like a dream! :)

No doctor can fix Tom. :p

Can anyone tell me how I add a movie folder / movie to the homescreen in the same way the Transformers movie was there by default.

Thanks. :)

Anyone using the kindle app on theirs at all? comparisons to "real" kindle?

For reading inside they both work perfectly well. I'd guess that a real Kindle would cope better with bright sunshine if you're reading outside.

The main benefit of the Kindle to me is the much lower weight. However for my usage I probably wouldn’t have purchased the Kindle if I’d already had something like the Nexus.

Isn't e-ink much easier on the eyes aswell though?

Hmm, just realized the free £15.00 of credit for the Play store still went on my account. Would I actually be allowed to use it even though I got a refund on my device?

I wouldn't worry about... just use it. I don't think you are going to financially ruin Google!

Got to say mine is in perfect condition. Well built solid little device. I'm almost as chuffed with my LuvTab case - it does work as a smart cover, but beyond that its a good fit, and unobtrusive to hold. Highly recommend getting one of those.

I very much doubt I'll be doing much book reading on mine. I have a Kindle which will last for weeks of constant use, not hours, can be read in direct sunshine, etc. - it only does one thing, but it does it well enough I can ignore books on the 7.

For me, the main purpose is really a replacement for my phone (which will continue to act as a tether, but little more). I rarely text or phone someone, I usually use IM or email, and my phone is my RSS reader, access to the internet, and Angry Birds machine. The 7 is intended to replace that.

I was pretty impressed by the screen in full sunlight yesterday, both backlit and face on. My phone is useless outside, but I'd have no problem reading for a short time on this. However the Kindle is the king of e-readers, and if reading anywhere was important to me there's no way I'd even consider using a Nexus or iPad, even inside. They're both fine if you've no choice, but outside I suspect running at max auto-brightness will soon eat the battery.

The important thing for me though is that the N7 is functional outdoors, making it a useful map reading/GPS device, and it was offline mapping which persuaded me to hit the buy button.

As a business owner I buy a LOT of new hardware, including a dozen smartphones a year, Ipads, Tablets, Monitors, PC upgrades, etc etc.

Can't remember the last time I sent anything back because I didn't like the look of how it was built and I'd decided on what the quality should be..... Guess what? Everything still works as described!

Am I just lucky or doing it wrong?

Whats this screen fault people mention? Does it "click" when in use or something?

Whats odd is that i got my shipment mail last night.
Then got an email this morning saying that all 16Gb's were delayed a week.
Checked my TNT consignment and it said 'please call'.
So i just did and they told me that they've had tons of problems with Google.
Apparently Googles system is completed automated so when they pickup all the units from Dublin in one go and then put it on their system individually to give Google individual consignment numbers, Googles system cant 'keep up' as its got a 3-5 day update time, even though TNT is a 24 hour turn around business.
So we all get missed information all over the place!

So the lesson is "if it says shipped" on your wallet account, ignore any other emails till its arrived! :p

"We received item FJ--------------GB at Chiswick DO on the 2012-07-19. The item is now ready for delivery."

Ohhhh yeah! Think I'll go work early for once!
