*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Well I opened the Indian Food sourced one and the GP one and the GP one is so loose on both sides of the screen, I didn't even take it out the plastic wrapping, it's defo going back..

The Indian Food place one had a slightly out of shape bezel on the left, so I popped the back off (no warranty stickers to break, so no problems there) and slightly loosened the screws on that side and retightened, and it's perfect now.. :)

I've got to ask - are we all still terrified of talking about imaginary competitors? I presume you're on about Currys?

There's a thread on XDA with a lot of people having success doing this, seems some of the loose screen ones screws simply weren't quite tightened enough.

40 minute wait on the phone, not terrible especially considering others. They've supposedly issued a 'shipment intercept' so that it is returned to them. Remains to be seen.

Received mine today. No issues to report with the screen fit, no screen bleed and no wifi drop problems so far.

Pretty happy with the overall size of the device in my hand. But there is a massive amount of bezel. The 7" screen size is perhaps a tad too small. However reconsidering the price it is still superb. All the cheaper tablets have 600p screens or 1024 widths. Too small for movies imho.

Quite pleased with the materials. If I had not read this thread and other's problems I would be praising the build quality as mine seems perfect (sorry).

My one actual gripe so far is Jelly Bean itself. Christ I hate not having menu and search buttons. No search means no right click in ScummVM. This sort of issue wont last long.

What are people using for brightness control? I assume we have to wait for CM10/AOKP etc to get brightness slider in notification bar.

There is a 'power' widget in the built in widgets list that contains a 4? stage brightness toggle along with wifi, bluetooth and I think gps on/off toggles. Same as on my Gingerbread phones. I use 'em all the time. Tab will spend most of its time on max brightness. Battery seems to be suffering as a result.

I find the tab bright enough indoors at max brightness and am pretty satisfied with quality of the screen contrast and colours.

akes it £179 for the 16GB version, and using quidco will get you another tenner cashback.
Can't say no to that!
and clubcard vouchers work too :p

Thats pretty sweet. If you know you were going to spend £15 on Google Play at some time in the future anyway, then the tablet is more like £164.

no wonder why its £200.
u get what u pay for

£190 delivered (or less if you shop around - see above) minus £15 included vouchers made it £175 for me. I think its pretty good build quality for that price.

Posting this from PC World order that turned up this afternoon. Looks perfect a the moment, although that could change.

I love it so far, much nicer than the first gen iPad it replaced.

Just a quick question, I didn't enter a credit card on first setup, how can I do it now to claim the £15?

I just bought one of the 1p books the other day to get the £15 credit. :)

So here we go...

The N7 feels much more expensive than a £160 tablet. By comparison my Touchpad doesn't feel as robust, especially the back which has some flex when pressed in and you can hear the gluey stuff too if you press hard enough. The material should be standard on ALL devices like this, I wish the S3 back cover was this material now, it feels really nice and grippy. Kind of like a shinier version of the ROCK case for the Galaxy S3.

The screen is good, autobrightness works well enough but tends to be choosing lower levels in normal light than I would desire. The colours aren't as vibrant as the S3 (obviously) but they are fine when the N7 is used on its own and not next to another device sporting a AMOLED-HD screen! Photos look very neutral though, not as vibrant as I'd prefer. I took a snap of both S3 and N7 displaying one of my photos (see below) which has a variation of skin tones and colours in sunlight and you can see the S3 screen is more vibrant and more true to how it was that day compared to the neutral colours on the N7.

It's much smaller in the hand than I was expecting but much heavier too! Only a few mm thicker than the S3 but you can hold it edge to edge in one hand and use it without problem or fear of it slipping thanks to that back cover material.

Performance seems fine, it's smooth but then again my S3 running ICS is also just as smooth, I didn't expect a major difference here even though I was surprised at comments on sites from people saying it's way smoother than the S3 running ICS and so on.

My one didn't appear to have the left side screen raised issue on close inspection but only when I zoomed in on one of the photos did I notice a tiny bit raised part just above the bezel (see pic below). This is invisible when looking in person up close though unless you're looking at an extreme angle in direct light. Press it in and you can't feel it go in so the raised par is so small it's not a bother but if it gets worse I'll tighten the screws and maybe apply some glue. This isn't something worth returning for.

There is no backlight bleed on my one from what I can see. There is fragments of edge backlighting but no more than I'd expect on any LCD panel tablet or otherwise.

The charger outputs 2 amps but the 1 amp charge I also have works fine and the N7 sees it as an AC source. Too early to tell if the 2A is required for faster charging or something. I get the feeling this is just a standard charger that Asus would otherwise bundle with larger tablets that do require 2A though so for the N7 it perhaps doesn't matter if it's 2 or 1 amp.

Brightness of the screen at max is fine outdoors in the sun, no better or worse than the S3. Pictures comparing both below.

My only gripe is that there's just over 5GB of free storage left from the 8GB so the OS itself and its data is consuming just over 2GB. I'll be resorting to Google Drive and USB OTG storage it would seem then :p

I read something on Flipboard today about an app that has been made to allow the USB mounting of HDD's as removable storage on Android.... This could be an option at times?

I can't find the article now :(

Nice one Mrk. I'm not sure how that screen issue could really bother anyone, you'd never notice it.

I think even for someone who isn't even as OCD as me it'd be a pain in the arse. Especially when it makes a sticky noise and has a spongy feel to it. Not all that are affected seem to have the latter issue though.

In other news, iPad v Nexus 7 drop test:
