I know this is a bit of a late moan considering the games been out a few months now but damn, i really hate the AH.
I've realised how much i enjoyed how disposable items were to mates and people you knew on D2, feeling good for helping them out and them doing the same for you. Now if anything good drops it's not "oh cool, i'll give this to my mate who's a different class/build", it's "how much is this worth on the AH?" or "will this sell on the RMAH?". I originally didn't think it was that much of a core mechanic in the game so never complained - but the more (or less) i play, the more i believe it's why i'm not enjoying it as much.
It's bad enough that the loot tables are terrible (and they can fix that) but Blizzard are always going to be controlling the market in their favour. I really, really, really want to love this game - and in many ways i do, but it's essentially taken away everything that made D2 great and turned it into a game that nobody wants to play after completing it.
It's either one big roll the dice game with ridiculously bad odds or some sort of financial simulator.
It feels so wrong to put this game down and i've defended it to plenty of people but i can see why people are quitting in their 100s of thousands. Once the new game novelty wears off for all the people new to Diablo, and Guild Wars 2 is released, less and less things will be bought from the auction houses, and it'll keep dwindling. It genuinely saddens me. PvP will excite ex-players again but within a few months it'll be exactly the same.
Blizzard will be forced to change the game completely in a rushed expansion or run the risk of it not being played by anyone except the cult hardcore.
I wish them the best, i really do.
