The fact that we have been linked with literally no central midfielders makes me think that we won't sign one.

I am fairly sure that Fergie wants to play Carrick as much as he can. Cleverley will get a good few games as well as Anderson if he can keep fit and then we have Scholes as well.

Fergie simply doesn't think that we need a centre mid.

I dont think that's true, the problem is he's holding out for someone as good as Scholes was(/is) and the truth of the matter is players off that ilk are already at top clubs and would cost a lot of money like Modric and at 26 doesn't represent 'value'

I am 100% positive we will sign a central midfielder next summer when Scholes does call it a day, I think for next season though we're going to just stumble on with Scholes, Carrick, Cleverley & Anderson and see whether the likes of Kagawa, Powell & Jones can adapt to being central midfielders

Thats it. We have a number of players that will retire or be sold at the end of the season so I don't think Fergie will do anything till then.

Cleverley and Anderson will get a good chance to prove themselves and potentially Carrick, Scholes and Giggs will be moved on or retire next year.

You can't just decide when you want a top class central midfielder though. As you say, top clubs pick those boys up when they can and hold onto them. I can't think why we were not in for Oscar or Sahin though. Both are very highly rated and young so when they establish themselves in a top team, the opportunity is gone.

We should have gone for him last summer when he moved to Real in the first place :(

there were rumours that we did at the time - but he heard "RM" and didnt want to even contemplate anywhere else (according to what I remember from last summer anyway)

Would be a great addition, but Im still not sure he would go that cheaply (cant remember how much he cost RM originaly)

.

I highly doubt that

MC may well not be a 1st choice by next summer, I would certainly go along with that potential - but I cant see him retirning at his age, and no reason at this point SAF will move him on either.

Thats wishful thinking on my part. I know he won't retire but he just doesn't play in the manner required for the top teams currently. He is far too negative and rarely picks out killer passes like the other top midfielders in his position.

If he moves backwards, with the likes of Kagawa, Cleverly, Anderson etc all capable of being the attacking option I think he will be very effective this season.

:D

Still dont know why people are expecting Carrick to provide these eye of the needle passes, no one expects it of the likes of Busquets

I never really know what type of player he is though. He can't ping balls all over the pitch, he can't do pass and move because he is too slow and doesn't have the control, he doesn't provide killer passes and he's not that good at breaking up the play.

He just doesn't cut it at the level United are looking to compete in my view.

The word on the grapevine is that as Malaga need Santi's entire transfer fee upfront (a rarity unless you're selling to City), Arsenal have agreed upon a reduced transfer fee of 15m euros (£11,800,000 approx). Plus a goal bonus.

If true, that is a stunning piece of business from Wenger.

Adebayor leaves on our terms or not at all. If we were desperate to get rid he would be gone already. We are not going to come out of this deal with nothing.

We are possibly in negotiations with other clubs and they are talking at Adebayor.

Apparently Sheikh has given Mancini the money to buy De Rossi as basically our only signing outside of youngsters. Incredible signing if we get him.

John Guidetti off out on loan to Sunderland as well reportedly on loan with a 1.5m fee with Sunderland wanting to pay 6m at the end but we want 8m.

carrick can do all of the above but yeah his role in the side is similar to that of Busquets at Barcelona, sit deep, intercept the ball and move it around the pitch, that's what he's been told to do so that's what he does.

Barton off to Fleetwood for a "6 month loan"

Somewhat defeats the point of banning to horrible little man if he's going to go train with a L2 team to get through his 12 match suspension quicker (by being registered as eligible for early league cup and jpt games).

Hopefully the FA think of a restriction to players serving a ban from games at their parent club making them ineligible for loan till they have served the ban...

Because the dream team of Fletcher and Carrick in centre midfield means that we get zero positive passing contributon from the midfield?

No one expects busquets to make great passes but he doesnt need to. he is surrounded by players like Xavi, Fabregas, Iniesta who are all passing kings.

At Utd you have a 37 Y O Giggsy, Back from retirement scholes, and Phil Jones or Rafael in the midfield, and sometimes Park.

I hope you can see the difference.

you've got money to burn, there's no point being stubborn over what is (to your owner) spare change. i'm not even sure if i want him anymore but one things for sure, he has no place at city and the feeling is mutual.
