Ah fair enough, after the Carroll to west ham stuff iv been a bit sceptical of the press this summer, they (as one massive group) really have dropped the ball on second guessing football wrong (more so than usual).

Allen for 15m would be good for Swansea, not sure how good he is compared to his FM rating though (in game he's quality so in real life it's not usually quite the case)

To be fair to the press, I don't think they got too much wrong on the Carroll stories. I'm pretty sure West Ham did make us an offer and even if it might not have officially been accepted, I get the impression that they were close enough to meeting our valuation but any deal is/was being held up by Carroll.

I think it's a bit of a waiting game now and a matter of who will buckle first - will we drop our asking price, will Newcastle up their bid or will Carroll take up West Ham's offer (assuming it's still on the table). Now I've said that, nobody will and he'll end up staying.
Agger was at training today with YNWA written on his fingers. I guess he isn't joining us!

Rodgers confirmed in his press-conference with the written press that you made an offer for Agger but no where near our valuation. I mentioned the other day that I believe that more often than not, a club will sound out (at the very least) a player before bothering bidding for them.

I'm not sure how legit the pictures are (or when they were taken) but it's said that he has that tattoo'd on his hand, not written.

the signs are there :)

Giroud and Podolski probably want RVP to leave so they can actually get a game.

Now UTD have more money from the Lucas deal going belly up, I just can't see them not getting RVP for Arsenal's wanted 22 odd million asking price.

He will be at UTD in the next week.

The only thing that can really stop it is offering RVP so much less money than the other teams or Fergie quite rightly making a stand on having to pay more(if true) than Juve or City would have to pay purely because its Utd. I don't remember us having to spend 6mil on Silvestre, 1mil(or was it 750k or something), though to be fair that was probably around 1mil more than they'd have charged anyone else :p So maybe they should pay 1mil more.

Fact is Arsenal have been peeing around, knowing full well RVP is leaving, and dragging this out all summer again rather than getting it done, letting new players know where they stand and training without him. Realistically we should have put an effort into talking to him properly the day after the season ended and getting a deal done before he even went to the Euro's.

Podolski will likely be pushed to left wing ahead of Gervinho/Arshavin and the like, Giroud was depending on who you hear from at the club a replacement for Chamakh or a replacement for RVP.

Arsenal look fairly set to screw themselves out of a few more million being unable to sell Chamakh, what's better getting 2mil for him and getting 4mil wages a year off the books, or insisting on 5+mil, no one buying and paying out 4mil in wages for the next year. So lose 4mil, or get 2mil now, would be a 6mil difference come the end of next season. Then again, this is the problem when you give "meh" players huge wages(huge for a crap player).

Have to agree with Fergies comments on the supposed fee for Moura too. Really is ridiculous.

Surely that means Neymar is worth around the same as RM paid us for Ronaldo, and that both Ronaldo and Messi are now worth upwards of 150m easily? Madness.

£27m by all accounts, after City coming back a 3rd time with a £20m offer

I'm still damn certain he wouldn't go even if we accepted an offer, wouldn't surprise me if he did have the tat :)

From Fergies comments tonight Arsenal (understandably) are trying to sell to everyone but us, I suspect this one will go the distance and be a final 5 minutes of the window signing if we pull it off.

One things for certain though, unless they've been developments that Fergies unaware of RVP's still definitely leaving Arsenal which will hopefully put an end to all the Arsenal supporters on here keep talking like he might be staying :p

We will keep saying it until he puts on a City/United/Juve shirt :p

I can't believe anyone agrees with Fergie, 45mil is outrageous for a 19yr old, the 30-35mil they offered is however perfectly fine?

An outrageous fee for an untested player is just that. This is the man who has sold a player for more than any other club ever, a man that bid on Moura and helped push his price up in the first place, a man that has spent over 30mil several times.

Guess what, for a 19yr old that hasn't proved anything, isn't first team for a Olympic's Brazil side let alone the "full" side, and hasn't shown an awful lot when he's come on, 30mil is completely and utterly outrageous, 45mil is simply slightly more outrageous but seeing as he's worth no more than 15mil for the POTENTIAL he might be great, not because he's actually that good now, Fergie hasn't got a leg to stand on with his comments.

We never bid 30-35m. Just saying.

EDIT: For arguments sake though lets say we did surely you can tell the difference between 35m and 45m?

We can't afford to wait when it comes to van Persie.

Whether he wants to join Man City or not, he'll swiftly change his mind when Arsenal instantly accept their bid and he gets offered a ridiculous salary.

If we don't have him in the next few days, I suspect we won't get him at all.

So the last game of a 60 game season then?

tbf I dont think Lescott was great and certainly not worth what City paid but credit where it's due he didn't look out of his depth at City last season and certainly didn't look like a weak link

it was the first game that instantly came to mind. i can barely remember the team i supports player performances over individual games never mind another teams but yes you are he didnt look like a weak link. i just think agger is far better. the euros showed for me who was better. but agger is always injured

Time will tell if they mugged us or themselves, at £45m or whatever it is he's going to have to be very special for it to seem worth it. He could be, my bet is he does enough at PSG that you could put another nice Youtube video together, but not a massive amount beyond that.

"I find it quite amazing that a club can pay 45million euros for a 19-year-old boy," said the Scot.

"To tell everyone that PSG are here they've signed Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. They must have spent about £150m in the last month.

"The only deterrent to that is UEFA.

"In the conditions of European football, you don't qualify for Europe by winning the league or coming second - you only get in by invitation.

"That's where, hopefully, UEFA can have some power.

"When somebody's paying £45m for a 19-year-old boy you have to say the game's gone mad."

When my old man started to develop alzheimer's they recommended that he give up alcohol to try to prolong his slide into dementia. I suggest Fergie takes some of that advice the hypocritical old **** :p

I find it weird that people seem so happy to blow £20-25m on RVP, whilst lambasting clubs for spending on kids. If you sign a kid for big money, you can have them for a decade (or more!) and there's sell-on value... whilst if you sign a twenty-nine year old for big money, there's no resale value, etc. On top of that, his wages will be ridic - say £220k/week, for three years... making the total RVP cost basically £60m, lol.

How long's RVP going to be good for? Three years? (I know it could be longer, but it'd be a long shot to be another Giggs/Scholes, lol). So, £25m/3 = £8.3m/year. Compared to Lucas, who could be £35m/10... so £3.5m/year (or they can sell him, obvs).

RVP is coming up to 29. So if he sticks to his current injury free form I think you would get a good 4-5 years out of him. Current EPL top scorer worth a punt at that price. Seeing as some of the more average players go for about £10m.

All I can hope for is Juventus buying RVP. Seriously don't want us to buy him for near the price that Arsenal seem to want, it'd be ridiculous.

How many world class 34 year old strikers are there?
