Gaming Mouse nerds...I need you

I have G700, it's a great mouse and the extra buttons are great, I tried a RAT 9 but it was incredibly uncomfortable for me and does not have many buttons.

Nothing wrong with spending more money if you want the features/design on offer. It's a whole different thing spending the money on something that WILL break and have no back-up from the company however.

My Roccat mouse got replaced quickly, no problems with new one (yet) :p So my experience with the support hasn't been too bad.

why look for anything other than the mx 518 20 quid for nigh on gaming mouse perfection

G400 is the MX518 but with a newer sensor.

Also @ OP I'd go for G400 over G500 because the former has an optical sensor. My experience is that optical mice generally track more reliably than laser mice (G500). It depends on your surface though, and how much dust you get :)

I couldn't go back to wired so the g700 gets my vote. Regards wireless, unless I have an inordinate amount of skill to offset the crippling the lag, there is none. I'm very sensitive to mouse smoothing and the general floaty mouse feel you get from it, I get none of that. If anything the g700 feels more responsive when wireless than wired as I pick up on the little drag you get from the cable.

You pretty much want something with the Avago DIP-20 sensor with no mouse prediction if you care about sensor quality at all. Basically, you're looking at the following mice:

Razer Deathadder 3G and 3.5G
Logitech G400
CM Storm Spawn
Zowie EC Evo
Zowie AM

Out of these the G400, CM and Zowie EC have DPI buttons on the mouse itself. Be carefuly about the CM though, I've heard it has an issue with high CPU usage when using VoIP software.

G400 sounds perfect for you.

Steelseries Sensei. The king of gaming mice.

I recently purchased one, after going through a RAT 9 and Razer Mamba first.

It's excellent, and considerably better than the pair of them.

or maybe the logitech g700?

Can't change the weight of it but still a good mouse, can use wired or wireless.
Wish i hadn't of gotten rid of mine...

Another here for the G700. Fantastic mouse!

G400 is the best logitech gaming mouse available.

Deathadder is the best razer gaming mouse available.

just get either one and a QPAD CT mouse mat and u got the best 2 things you'll ever need :D

g400 is good especially ones without the angle snaping , but for me the wheel is in a really horrible place (too far back) not a massive thing though. Build quality plastics could be better but for price it betters a lot of mice performance wize.

Deathadders I just dont seem to get on with them. Tried 2 and they both started to scrape on the bottom (using hard mouse pad) and I dont think build quality is great and may just be me, but I dont like the buttons (seem to have too much travel)

Would recommend the Zowie ec2 evo - good sensor, low lift off, pretty good build quality and good skatez.

People actually pay upwards of £50 for a mouse!? They must be good!!

Placebo effect most of the time. I know people will disagree with this comment but as long as the mouse ain't a **** cheap one from ASDA I can't notice the difference. As I said I've used loads of different gaming mice and my R.A.T 3 feels pretty much the same as them all, only thing that varies is sensitivity and that can be changed at the click of a button.

It's only placebo if you don't care. I personally notice positive acceleration quite easily. I would never buy a Sensei because of this, even though it's an expensive "high end" mouse. I'm not too bothered about mouse prediction so I'd happily use a Logitech MX518. Some people don't like prediction so they avoid mice with it. If you don't know or care about mouse acceleration, prediction, perfect control speed, etc then sure it's placebo. Some people actually notice these things though.

Thats what I have, it was a £10 keyboard/mouse combo from ASDA I think, I can't actually see what could be changed to boost it to £50+ it seems perfect. Letters have eroded abit from my keyboard, though. :(

Can't remember the last time I didn't come top 3 online, so I really don't think a gaming mouse gives any advantage in that department, unless they are extremely rare or most people using them suck and just got one in the hopes it'd suddenly make them good. No idea though as I've never used a posh mouse. :p

It seems extremely placebo for a £45 difference from a cheap mouse, remember the placebo effect can be bloody strong in people, if you sold somebody a scooby doo sticker for a billion quid and told them a potato would run Skyrim on ultra if they stuck it on one, they'd most likely buy it (sad thing is, that isn't even that much of an overexaggeration :()

Tbh though, I wouldn't mind seeing what all the fuss is about though if anyone knows of a cheap 'gaming' mouse for under £20?

The Deathadder is only £33 new.

The MX518 can be had for £20 or so used. The MX518 has been replaced by the G400, but dunno how expensive the G400 is.

The Deathadder has flawless tracking. The MX518 has mouse prediction. If you don't know what prediction is, it's when the mouse corrects your pointer when drawing straight lines. It makes drawing straight lines much much easier in paint, but you lose some control because of it. Some prefer prediction, most don't notice it, some hate it. It's mostly preference.

Gaming mice are a luxury. They make your gaming (and non-gaming too) experience better by having smoother tracking and generally a nicer feel. Once you use a high quality mouse like the ones I mentioned above, using a cheap one again will feel pretty terrible. Whether or not the higher quality sensors make a difference is entirely up to you. Like I said, I can't use mice with positive acceleration. I use low sensitivity so I swipe my mouse very quickly over pretty long distances. Positive acceleration is quite noticeable for me.

edit: the Logitech G400 is only £25 in the OcUK shop. Amazing mouse for the price. It's pretty much the same as the MX518 except Logitech listened to their customers and fixed the prediction. So it has flawless tracking like the Deathadder.
