recommended SSD?

Thanks guys, installed the AMD drivers update and everything is running smoothly. Didnt bench before and after though so dont know if the AMD update is any quicker.

Edit, just done first quick bench with ATTO. Top write speed was just under 250MB/s and read ~275MB/s . I guess this is limited by the mobo somehow as its fairly old, or should I be getting quicker speeds?

As your mobo only supports SATA 3Gbps, then I would say that was about right.

Still muchhh faster than a mech drive.

Enjoy :):):)

also with win7 installed on the 830 it still takes about 25 secs to get into windows, is that normal???

Depends on a number of variables. Sounds like you did a clean Windows install. But how many apps you got at start up? Also if BIOS detecting things like Esata drives, then this can slow things up. And also what are you using to time your boot? and is that just to the Windows logon, or to the desktop?

As an example. On my system (see sig.) when on a new install, it took 18 seconds to workable desktop. Now (due to apps loading at start up etc.) it takes some 26 seconds. Still pretty speedy, well I'm happy. Not like I consider boot times to be that big a thing and certainly not why I moved over to SSD's.

If it was me (if you've not done already). I'd do one run of ATTO and see what that looks like.

PS. I'm timing my boot with Bootracer (sad I know :o)

no idea what any of that mean btw...

any good???

i was doing a lot of other stuff on pc at same time downloading etc, will that effect it?

Strange.

My AS SSD scores for my Crucial M4 on SATAII are 242 read and 257 write. Overall 630

seq 269.37 / 184.45
4k 28.06 / 90.95
4k-64Thrd 186.71 / 147.88
Acc.time 0.083ms / 0.200 ms
242 / 257
630

I think the pertinent comment from Graveyard might be "i was doing a lot of other stuff on pc at same time downloading etc, will that effect it?". To which I suspect the answer would be "yes it would". I would think that any activity on the drive being tested would make a difference. Hence why no two runs of these tests will produce exactly the same results (IE. depends what's running in the background).

For start, were you both running your CPU in "high power mode" (IE. speedstep etc. switched off)? If not, then I suspect this can/will effect the 4k write figures for a start.

Push come to shove though and at the end of the day, it's a matter of just getting on and using your new drive. A small difference in these scores will not make much (if any) difference in how the drive actually feels in normal day-to-day use.
