It's a thread about cats being a nuisance, add in the fact there are a lot of cat lovers on the forum and the ones that don't fall into that category think it's hilarious to joke about killing the offending cat(s) to wind up the ones that do.

The "why don't you you shoot it/put in a microwave or bin/hit it with a spade" type comments are predictable as night following day in threads like this.

I'd say make absolutely 100% sure they are stray, even if you have to catch them, collar them with a note, and catch them again if there is no communication within a couple of weeks. If no results, talk to your neighbours (IE the old lady) and devise a game plan to catch them one by one and take them to the local cat sanctuary.

I'm sure you can get pre-made traps (I'm not talking teeth clamps here) on the internet for this very job.
