This hasn't been posted yet I believe. BBC Link.

All three offers fell short of Arsenal's valuation - they were reluctant to enter formal negotiations until a bid exceeded £20m, and hoped to hold out for £25-30m.

United, City and Juventus increased their offers but, of the three, United were the only side Van Persie would consider joining.

It is understood Van Persie was encouraged by the arrivals of Germany forward Lukas Podolski, France striker Olivier Giroud and Spain midfielder Cazorla - to the point where he was open to the idea of staying with or without a new contract.

But Wenger pulled him aside shortly before Sunday's friendly victory over Cologne, told him he would be sold if a deal could be reached and informed the Dutchman he was no longer part of his plans.

Formal discussions between Arsenal and United began immediately, with Gazidis and United chief executive David Gill agreeing a fee of £22.5m on Tuesday, only for it to be vetoed by Wenger as he held out for £25m.

On Wednesday morning, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson called Wenger to offer £23m and Wenger quoted him £24m.

But a compromise was finally reached on Wednesday evening and Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday to discuss terms and begin his medical.

So it seems he was interested in staying but Wenger had made his mind up and that City/Juventus weren't in Van Persies plans at all.

His statement meant he was never going to stay, so ineffect he forced a move I'd say.

Considering Wenger spent this summer saying its not worth selling him, he'd prefer to see him go next season for free, and he tried the same line all last summer on Nasri, no, not really. Arsenal wanted a fee for him rather than a year and no fee, they had a choice, they had a choice to sign him up to a new contract a year ago, or two years ago. Arsenal as usual had most of the balls in their court and screwed around and failed.

We do this constantly and constantly get caught out and have it backfire in our face. Edu, Flamini, Nasri, RVP we let get to the final year of their contracts.... Djourou, Diaby end up getting new and stupidly overpriced contracts, but we **** around over good players contracts, its ridiculous.

If he stays fit, what a signing that's going to be.

Even if he misses half a season in the half season he plays he'll do more than Welbeck or Hernandez will do in a whole season, so who really cares?

here's a hint though, if RVP breaks a bone in his foot... don't play him for a few games before treating it, yeah, is first real injury for Arsenal was made worse by Arsenal. His other real injury, damage to his ankle.... Arsenal's treatment involved letting him walk around, thinking it wasn't serious and sending him to get HORSE PLACENTA rubbed into it... without actually looking at the ankle themselves or getting a second opinion or anything... and it got significantly worse, pretty much going from partial to full tear.

So as long as Utd actually treat any injuries he gets with, errm, medicine and logic.... he won't have much of a problem.

Granted it's a good signing either way, but who cares? Well, United fans for a start surely.

With your in depth knowledge of sporting injuries, i'm surprised you aren't on the medical staff down at Old Trafford.

It's fair to say that unless the clubs involved release the fee then it's pure guesswork, akthough that can become very educated guesswork once the following set of annual accounts comes through.

RVP will get some stick at the Emirates next season lol, that's if he's not injured of course, he's at that injury prone age and due a lengthy lay off surely??? It was pretty obvious it would happen Podolski was waiting for the no. 10 when we first looked at signing him way back when i suspected rvp would be on his way.

I actually thought his injury record was much worse than it is. I mean, it's not amazing, but it's not THAT bad is it (bar the 2 obvious blips)?

04/05 - 41
05/06 - 38
06/07 - 31
07/08 - 23
08/09 - 44
09/10 - 19
10/11 - 33
11/12 - 48

By all accounts, Wenger just simply did not want to sell. It was the higher ups that wanted to push it through. It always looked like it was going to happen but Wenger was an obstacle the whole time even when he knew RvP didn't want to join City or Juventus.

Hopefully he will stay fit and help us to some silverware (proper silverware).

Sunderland should just pursue other targets, I know they are desperate following the departures of Bent, Gyan, Wellbeck and Bendtner but they shouldn't be held to ransom. They spunked £9m on Wickham so they need to start playing him, Campbell seemed to return from injury and I'm not sure about Dong.

They do need a striker but £15m for a Championship player is taking the mick, I bet £10m would get them equal quality elsewhere. Heck they could probably get Bendtner back for that sort of money. Or maybe consider the loan route again.

7m could have netted them Jay Rodriguez... Couple of million (and some planning) could have gotten them Billy Sharp or Nicky Maynard. Hell 750k could have gotten them Vaz Te, he's not even all that good! But would have been better value than Fletcher at 15m!

Sunderland look hilarious for a complete lack of competent scouting and team building from the management, which is only going to get a lot worse before it gets better...

The Daily Mail are reporting that Saha is going to be an option instead of Fletcher. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...sted-free-agent-Louis-Saha.html#ixzz23ekIZ1ur

An even worse option! :D

Oh, right...

Lol typical man u arrogance, as wenger says there is no news reagrding van persie because there are no negotiations taking place, also van persie and his agent have said approx. nothing which suggests rvp is not interested in a move there.

what you said is opinion mate sorry, bit of a vindictive tone as well. RVP will be in the arsenal side this saturday, if he leaves arsenal it will be on a free next summer. also do you understand the idea that AW has said there are no negotiations taking place? The rejected man u bid was ages ago it's all twitter feed...

Sorry mate but nothing doing, man u are just picking over bones, ie there's nothing there. Also I'm not upset in the least not a great RVP fan personally just sick of hearing about it.

Spose you would get egotistical when you're a past it 70 something at the head of the suddenly very much 2nd best team in manchester. Seriously City are miles ahead of man u, if RVP was going to leave he would have gone to city, it's a dead subject.

Ego on man u fans is pure lol. City demolished Chelsea on sunday, 3-2 flattered chelsea by some margin, city are on the rise man u the other way. Like I said if RVP was going it would have been to man city, I suspect RVP declined a move to man u at some point.

edit: and that was with silva on the bench

"Anything I could say about Van Persie would be a lie because he's our player and that's it. Robin scored 30 goals last season and you want to keep your best player.

"He was player of the year in England. We want to keep him. I cannot tell you more at the moment because I don't know more."

End of basically, RVP or his agent have said nothing, i would bet on him starting this saturday and the next.

It's ok everyone, it was all just twitter feed, RVP wasn't interested in a move to Man United, Wenger wasn't going to sell, he was going to start this saturday and the one after that and hey if he was going to move anywhere it was to City!

;)

You have to admit that it's almost as hard to be that wrong as it is to be right about these sort of things. Kudos I say.
